Weak, unrecognized Child of Prophecy 464 Despite being sixteen, she had unremarkable physical ability and weak sorcery, leading Tintagel to call her an impostor. 464
First Pilgrimage Bell — approximately Lv.5–6 476 Ringing the bell rapidly awakened her Paradise Fairy power, vastly increasing her magic and physical strength. 476
Second Pilgrimage Bell — near Lv.7 535 Her strength rose close to Lv.7 after another bell, placing her around or above Spriggan's personal guard. 535
Five Pilgrimage Bells 1133 Her sorcery remained rudimentary, but her enormous magic supply and army-wide enchantments became a decisive asset to the Round Table. 1133
Completed Pilgrimage Journey 1135–1136 After ringing the final bell, she gained the ability to contend with Fairy Knights alone for a time and no longer required constant protection. 1135 1136

Background

Artoria arrived in Britain sixteen years earlier in a small boat alongside the Staff of Selection. The fairies of Tintagel identified her as the Child of Prophecy and raised her, but her weak magic and physical ability eventually caused them to reject her as a fraud. After refusing to kill the blacksmith Eckert as a test, she was imprisoned and prepared for execution. 464

Eckert secretly recovered her confiscated Staff of Selection and intended to help her escape. Riezel instead rescued Artoria from Tintagel's dungeon, beginning her departure from the village and the Pilgrimage Journey expected of the Child of Prophecy. 464

Appearance

Artoria appears as a delicate human girl despite being a fairy. She has long golden hair and usually carries the Staff of Selection; later, she is seen in a school-style sorcerer uniform. 463 494 1114

  • Golden hair and a youthful, delicate face. 494
  • A fairy whose outward appearance is nearly indistinguishable from a human's. 463
  • Carries the root-like Staff of Selection, topped with branching growths and an embedded crystal. 464
  • Her disguise and apparent fairy traits vanish when she invokes the Pilgrimage Bells. 476

Personality

Initially, Artoria is awkward, excitable, and deeply insecure. Having been treated as an unwanted impostor in Tintagel, she often masks her uncertainty with a loose smile or impulsive behavior. Her experiences with the world's malice have taught her to endure rather than openly break down. 463 464 470

She is compassionate and sensitive to others' intentions, but this makes her hesitant when faced with the burden of prophecy, King Arthur's inherited memories, and the fate of Britain. Over time, she becomes more resolute: rather than simply following a predetermined role, she chooses to help Nokturna, support Pan-Human History, and witness Britain's end before deciding her own future. 505 1133

Abilities & Skills

Fairy Eyes

Artoria possesses Fairy Eyes that allow her to perceive lies and notice concealed intentions.

  • Saw through Eckert's claim that he had not stolen the Staff of Selection specifically for her. 464
  • Perceives malice intensely, describing the world as a storm of malice. 470
  • Detected Oberon's concealed hostility and his continued surveillance of herself and Riezel. 1158
  • Recognized the overwhelming evil surrounding Koyanskaya. 521

Paradise Fairy Enchantment

Artoria can surround allies with starlight and greatly increase their strength.

  • Enhanced Riezel during his battle with Gawain. 496
  • Strengthened Riezel, Mashu, Tristan, and the Chaldea group at once. 519
  • Her enchantments became a central advantage for the Round Table Army, allowing weaker human soldiers to contend with powerful fairy forces. 1118 1133
  • The ability became substantially stronger as she rang more Pilgrimage Bells. 1133 1145

Sorcery

Artoria's conventional sorcery is practical rather than sophisticated, especially compared with Morgan's.

  • Creates magical bombs and destructive blasts. 477 542
  • Skilled at lockpicking, infiltration, trap-setting, and demolition. 496 500
  • Can deploy a magic barrier for warning and concealment. 514
  • Used an illusion to evade Woodworth and escape the Grand Cathedral. 478

Pilgrimage Bell Resonance

By striking the six Pilgrimage Bells, Artoria unlocks her inherent Paradise Fairy power and gradually receives memories and knowledge associated with her Pan-Human History counterpart.

  • Each bell sharply increases her magic and combat ability. 476 535
  • The bells are the bones of the Six Great Clans' chiefs; ringing them represents the clans' acknowledgment of their sins. 1122 1134
  • Completing all six grants her the qualification to inherit the Holy Sword's mystery. 1122
  • Returning to Paradise after completion would require her to offer her memories and existence to forge the Holy Sword. 1162

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Staff of Selection — A staff that accompanied Artoria when she arrived in Britain and grows with the Child of Prophecy. Eckert stole it back from Tintagel for her. 464
  • Pilgrimage Bells — Sacred “Bone Clocks” used to awaken Artoria's Paradise Fairy power and advance her pilgrimage. 476 1134

Relationships

  • Riezel Brihaut — Her first major ally after escaping Tintagel. She trusts and relies on him, while he consistently encourages her to choose her own future and promises to retrieve her from Paradise if necessary. 463 506 1162
  • Eckert — Reclusive Earth Clan blacksmith who helped her escape Tintagel and recovered her Staff of Selection. 464
  • Nokturna — Former friend and present rival for Britain's throne. Their mutual envy and concern ultimately lead Artoria to choose to aid Nokturna and the Northern Fairies. 1129 1133
  • Aurora — Wind Clan chief who helped Artoria infiltrate Camelot and later supported her resistance to Morgan. 500 506
  • Oberon — A nominal ally against Morgan whom Artoria never fully trusts; her Fairy Eyes discerned his hidden malice and watchfulness. 510 1158
  • Chaldea — Artoria comes to regard Chaldea as trustworthy companions and allies in protecting Pan-Human History. 527 1133
  • Morgan — Queen of Britain and Artoria's principal adversary. Morgan's overwhelming sorcery and prior completion of the Pilgrimage Journey leave Artoria far outmatched. 495 1136
