In a corner of the Chamber of Secrets, Tom Marvolo Riddle, hiding in the darkness, was deeply annoyed when he realized Snape had discovered him. This was not how his plan was supposed to go. Shouldn't his nemesis, Harry Potter, have come? Why had three professors arrived instead? One of them was even someone Ginny did not recognize at all. What did this mean? Did Hogwarts have professors whom students had never seen before?
As a Horcrux created during Voldemort's youth, Tom had always obediently remained inside the diary. He had never imagined that one day he would return to Hogwarts.
Returning was one thing. He could conveniently find a body and resurrect himself. Tom had even planned how he would make a grand display in pursuit of his ideals after his resurrection.
But while plotting his resurrection at school, Tom learned that his future self had been killed by some little brat. He immediately lost his composure. Why? I was young, rich, and better-looking than Harry. Why could baby Harry kill my future self?
So when Tom abducted Ginny into the Chamber of Secrets this time, it was not merely to resurrect himself. He also wanted to see the impulsive Harry and, while he was at it, see if he could have the Basilisk kill him and save himself trouble in the future.
