Ch. 401Winning Over and Dividing

The Demon Slayer Corps debated the allegations against Scribe and decided to contact him, while Ayu ordered a force to capture him and learned that the Shinri Family had leaked the photographs. The chapter left Ayu choosing to approach the Shinri Family rather than the Hyakuya Family.

  • Rengoku KyoJuro investigated the people following the Corps and learned they had been hired by an unknown employer using false information.
  • Shinobu Butterfly, Kanae Kocho, and most of the Hashira voiced their belief in Scribe, while many lower-ranking members doubted him after the newspaper reports and photographs.
  • Tomioka Giyu proposed contacting Scribe, and Ubuyashiki Kagaya sent Shinobu Butterfly and Kanae Kocho to Tsukishiki Pharmaceuticals; he also assigned Rengoku KyoJuro to speak with Tetsuzhen after Tengen Uzui asked for time to handle a family matter.
  • Ubuyashiki Kagaya asked Tanjiro to recount what had happened the night Scribe allegedly killed Demon Slayers.
  • Ayu ordered his men to capture Scribe alive and planned to confine him under armed guard.
  • Ayu learned that the Shinri Family had arranged the photographs and chose to contact them instead of the Hyakuya Family.

Ch. 402Who Are You? / Whose Turf Are You On?

  • Ayu told his butler to arrange more people and claim that the photos came from the Hyakuya Family.
  • Zhuang Mu arrived at Tsukishiki Pharmaceuticals with armed men, threatened the crowd, and demanded to see Scribe, who did not respond to their visit.

Ch. 405Deal with Zhuang Mu and His Gang

Scribe questioned Zhuang Mu and his group about Crown Prince Ayu’s order to capture him alive, but learned that they knew little about the photos or Ayu’s motives. When Gyutaro moved to kill Zhuang Mu, Zhuang Mu attacked him and called for help, but an unfamiliar fragrance paralyzed the group.

  • Zhuang Mu said Crown Prince Ayu had sent them to capture Scribe alive and bring him back for interrogation.

  • Scribe allowed Gyutaro to take Zhuang Mu away, but Zhuang Mu struck Gyutaro and ordered his group to attack.
  • An unfamiliar fragrance filled the room, leaving Zhuang Mu and the others unable to move.

Ch. 406Talks Break Down / The Agreement

After the Demon Slayer Corps largely rejected Scribe’s innocence, he refused to return to the organization, though he agreed to help once more for the sake of the Kocho Sisters. He remained committed to hunting Kibutsuji Muzan and left Mitsuri’s choice to her.

  • Scribe defended his decision to kill Zhuang Mu’s group, and Tamayo told the Kocho Sisters that he would not return to the Demon Slayer Corps.
  • Kanae and Shinobu explained that most Corps members believed Scribe was guilty, while nearly all the Hashira and some ranked swordsmen still trusted him.

Scribe refused to return with Mitsuri and the Kocho Sisters to train the Demon Slayer Corps, but gave them a detailed training booklet before heading back inside.

  • Ayu learned from Keito that the man who had been captured was not the highest leader, then ordered Keito to follow a plan that would pit the Shinri Family against Tsukishiki Pharmaceuticals.
  • Keito agreed to Ayu’s demands and accepted a token, then secretly showed disdain as he left and offered the butler a bribe for advance notice of Ayu’s business.
  • The butler reported that Keito had acted frightened and tried to bribe him, and Ayu concluded that Keito would be obedient.
  • Mitsuri told Scribe that she had to return with Shinobu and Kanae to guide the swordsmen, while Scribe said he also needed to set out soon.
  • Shinobu and Kanae asked Scribe to accompany them and train the swordsmen, but he refused and handed them a booklet of rank-specific training methods and guidance for each Hashira.

  • Ayu agreed to help Dichai search for the Blue Spider Lily, and Dichai revealed that a Breathing Technique learned before becoming a demon could still be used afterward.
  • Ayu left with Dichai, later returned alone carrying a bottle of red liquid, and hid at his guard captain’s home while sending out orders.
  • Scribe heard that Ayu’s guards had mobilized, investigated the residence, and waited three days without finding Ayu; Axuan also stopped trying to recruit him after his messengers were injured.
  • More than thirty civilians, mostly from impoverished families, vanished in one night, leading Scribe to suspect a demon was responsible.

  • Kokushibo confronted Gyokko about what he had told Muzan and warned him not to destabilize the demons’ hierarchy.
  • Keito urged Brain Eater to start the next phase because he had lost contact with Crown Prince Ayu and Dichai and feared Scribe would target the Shinri Family.
  • Brain Eater agreed, and Keito ordered the Shinri Family to gather its members and guards, sell its assets, and use the money to buy supplies.
  • Several days later, Scribe read reports of the Shinri Family’s asset sales and saw samurai from Ayu’s residence rushing away.
