As dawn broke, Moriarty emerged from the dormitory, passing through the dark and luxurious common room and ascending via the floating stairs to the eighth floor.
A tapestry depicting Barnaby the Barmy being beaten by a troll's club was clearly visible. Moriarty knew the door to the Room of Requirement was on the wall opposite the tapestry.
He concentrated and silently recited, "I need a place to practice spells."
After Moriarty walked past the wall three times, a very smooth door appeared on it. Moriarty stepped inside.
"Ding dong~ Host detected discovering the Room of Requirement, rewarded with three exploration lottery draws."
Moriarty hadn't received many lottery draws since entering Hogwarts.
He had originally expected to get draws for discovering Hogwarts and for discovering the Slytherin Dungeon, but only the Sorting Hat had provided one draw. This room, however, had provided three at once. Moriarty surveyed the room's decorations and nodded in satisfaction.
Inside, there was a large open area with over a dozen wooden figures, stone figures, and straw targets set up to test the accuracy and power of spells.
On another smaller rug were many silk cushions for resting after spell practice.
Moriarty wasted no time. He chose a stone figure, stood five meters away, and raised the Slytherin staff.
"Sectumsempra!"
The stone figure exploded with a "bang," leaving behind a pile of gravel.
"Reparo," Moriarty repaired the stone figure. He then drew the Snow Fir Wood wand from his robe, gripping it in his right hand, a faint coolness seeping into his palm.
Aiming the Snow Fir Wood wand at the stone figure, Moriarty said softly, "Sectumsempra!"
The stone figure shattered again, as expected, with a thin layer of frost on the fragments. It quickly evaporated after hitting the ground.
Moriarty repaired the stone figure for the second time. This time, he drew the Holly Wood wand.
Compared to the Slytherin staff, which felt as natural as swinging his own arm, and the Snow Fir Wood wand, which had a special feel in his hand, the Holly Wood wand felt somewhat unfamiliar.
Moriarty flexed his wrist, infused magic into the wand, and abruptly raised his arm: "Sectumsempra!"
"BANG!!!"
The poor stone figure's explosion was louder than before, and it then split into five or six large rocks.
The contrast was clear.
Moriarty then cast ice-based magic, Freezing Charm, Hailstorm Charm, and Incendio, on another stone figure using the three different wands, and summarized the power of each wand.
"The Slytherin staff has the greatest power, suitable for Slytherin Family magic and spells left by Salazar.
The Snow Fir Wood wand is practically tailor-made for Water Elemental Magic; even ordinary spells gain a slight Water Elemental Magic effect.
The Holly Wood wand, however, is rather cumbersome. Whether it's for ordinary magic or Water Elemental Magic, the actual effect is greatly diminished. Perhaps only when I unlock Fire Elemental Magic will I be able to unleash this wand's true power."
Moriarty regretfully placed the Holly Wood wand into his pouch—he had been using this small pouch, enchanted with a Shrinking Charm and the Undetectable Extension Charm, as a mobile storage.
The door on the wall reappeared, and a girl with long white hair walked into the Room of Requirement.
"Hey, this room is really strange. I never knew it could be used by two people at the same time."
Moriarty turned and smiled, "I imagine you also need a room where you can practice spells."
"That's right. I come here every morning to practice spells. After graduation, I want to become an Auror," the girl said. "I'm Tonks."
"Nymphadora Tonks. A fourth-year Hufflepuff," Moriarty repeated, but quickly added with a smile, "You've made quite an impression on us. After all, not many girls can interrupt Professor Dumbledore's speech."
Tonks smiled, then turned serious. "Don't call me by my first name, or I won't hesitate to hit you with a Daze, even if you are a descendant of Slytherin."
Moriarty moved closer to her, admiring her pale, heart-shaped face and meeting her dark, sparkling eyes. He said earnestly:
"Although many people find your name unappealing, they don't know that Nymphadora means 'gift of the nymphs' in Ancient Greek, referring to the nymphs who lived in mountains, forests, and waters in Greek mythology. It's a name full of mythological significance."
"You're the first boy to tell me the meaning of my name," Tonks tilted her head to look at Moriarty. "I remember you're Moriarty Slytherin. They all call you Mr. Moriarty.
So it's no wonder Mr. Moriarty is popular with the little witches! Right?" Tonks said playfully, circling Moriarty. Her appearance actually began to change!
"Knowledgeable, polite, distinguished, knows so many ancient spells, and is wealthy. Hmm~ simply a high-quality wizard!"
As she spoke, Tonks transformed into Lilith's appearance, then Penelope's, and then Gemma Farley's.
When she was about to transform into Professor McGonagall, Moriarty stopped her.
"Now I understand why you can interrupt Professor Dumbledore," Moriarty teased. "You dare to play pranks on Professor McGonagall too? But seriously, Nymphadora, you're an Metamorphmagus!
I bet you'll definitely become an Auror. If the Auror office doesn't hire you, then the people there are blind."
Senior Tonks's face flushed slightly, but she didn't reject Moriarty's address. Instead, she changed the subject. "This room is completely different from the rooms I've entered before, but I have to admit, it's a great place to practice spells."
After surveying the room's furnishings, her gaze fell upon the frosted gravel.
"No wonder I felt a cold current when I just entered. Is this the unique, distinctive magic that Mr. Lockhart praised you for?"
Moriarty shook his head. "Mr. Lockhart thinks too highly of me. Ice magic is indeed unusual, but to say it's my unique magic is a bit of an exaggeration."
"Whatever you say, I want to try," Senior Tonks's dark eyes were full of fighting spirit. "Can I, Mr. Moriarty? Or perhaps, Junior Moriarty~"
Looking at the senior who was always ready for a prank, Moriarty smiled faintly and cast Expelliarmus at her!
A red light slowly shot towards Tonks. She jumped to the other side of the open space and said with displeasure, "Shouldn't the duelists bow to each other before a duel? By Merlin's beard, has even Slytherin lost its etiquette!"
"I'm not treating this as a duel. This spell won't be as slow as the last one," Moriarty raised his hand and cast Sectumsempra again. "The villains Aurors face don't bow to you, Nymphadora. Practicing spells a hundred times is not as good as one dangerous real combat."
"So you want to defeat me? Aha? Defeat a senior who is older than you?" Tonks laughed, but her hands were quick to cast Protego on herself.
Even with an invisible shield protecting her, Tonks stumbled back five steps before steadying herself. "Try this counter-attack, senpai!"
Tonks's hair turned fiery red, and she pointed her brown wand at Moriarty. "Daze!"
A thick beam of red light shot straight towards Moriarty.
The spell was clearly stronger than a standard Daze, and Moriarty didn't dare be careless. He first cast Protego, then a family magic.
"Whispering Serpent!"
A strange hissing sound, a mix of Serpent Tongue and Ancient Latin, filled the air. Silver pythons rapidly emerged from the wooden dummy and straw targets, slithering to Tonks's feet.
Tonks's face grew paler, but remembering her dream, she decisively cast Incendio at her feet, attempting to burn the silver snakes.
However, many dark green characters appeared on the silver snakes' skin, protecting them from the flames. They quickly coiled around Tonks.
Moriarty, confident of victory, explained, "The Serpent Tongue summons the silver snakes, and the Ancient Latin incantation makes them impervious to water and fire. They can't even be killed by Unforgivable Curses."
Suddenly—"Swish!"
Moriarty's snow fir wood wand flew out of his hand!
Tonks smirked. "Silencing Charm! Junior Moriarty, right after Incendio, I cast a silent Expelliarmus."
While retrieving his wand with Accio, Moriarty said to her, "Learning a sixth-year spell in fourth year, maybe even Charlie Weasley isn't as skilled as you."
"You're pretty amazing too. I'm helpless against these silver snakes, so let's call this round a draw." Tonks tensed her body. "What are you waiting for? Make them leave!"
Moriarty slowly walked towards Tonks, looking at her as if admiring a work of art.
"What's with that look?" Tonks bit her lip. "No girl likes snakes. The fact that I didn't scream when I saw them proves I have the qualities of a qualified Auror, okay!"
Seeing Moriarty remain unmoved, Tonks relented. "Mr. Moriarty? Junior Moriarty~ Can you please release your senpai? They're cold and slimy, making senpai feel so~ uncom~fort~able~"
