Background / History
In winter 1987, the ten-year-old Moriarty was dying of exposure in a dilapidated house in East Tibet. The original Moriarty had died, and his body became inhabited by a young man from the 21st century who inherited his memories and Slytherin lineage. The new Moriarty used the Slytherin Patriarch's Staff to cast a Heat-Up Charm and survive. 1
Moriarty learned that he descended from Salazar Slytherin through Salazar's Squib son. This branch had migrated to China, remained insular through generations of intra-family marriages, and eventually dwindled to Moriarty's parents. His parents fled Grindelwald's pursuit but were later killed by an East Tibetan Yeti. 1
The inheritance left to him included the Patriarch's Staff, a family tree, and a golden key to Salazar's post-Hogwarts castle. At the same time, the Behind-the-Scenes Boss System bound itself to him and assigned an ultimate objective: become the magical world's behind-the-scenes boss by 2012 in exchange for godhood. Moriarty consequently set out for Britain, intending to reclaim the castle, build influence, and avenge his parents. 1
Soon after arriving in Britain, he saved the Snowman Tribe from Dark Wizards, killed one of their attackers, and earned System points. He also received ten years of magic power and the Philosopher's Stone as a quest reward. 3 4 After claiming Slytherin Castle, he recruited Gilderoy Lockhart to present him to the public as the last heir of Slytherin, turning Lockhart's publicity skills into the basis of Moriarty's rising reputation. 5 9
Moriarty enrolled at Hogwarts in 1988. While studying, he developed a loyal circle of students and pure-blood families, expanded into broomstick production and Quidditch, and used his followers to build a political and commercial network. 12 74 202 203
Appearance
Moriarty bears a strong resemblance to Salazar Slytherin, particularly in his gray hair and deep gray eyes. His features and unusual coloring make him immediately recognizable to many witches and wizards. 1 9 264
- Gray hair and gray eyes, traits associated with Salazar Slytherin. 1 9
- Initially described as a frostbitten, underfed ten-year-old in East Tibet. 1
- Frequently wears ancient, luxurious wizarding robes from Slytherin Castle. 9
- Often carries the silver Slytherin Patriarch's Staff. 1 264
Personality
Moriarty is calculating, observant, and intensely goal-oriented. From the moment he learns of the System's objective, he assesses Dumbledore, Voldemort, Grindelwald, pure-blood families, political institutions, wealth, status, and reputation as variables in a larger plan. 1
Though proud of his Slytherin inheritance, he rejects pure-blood supremacy. He considers pure-bloods, half-bloods, Muggles, and wizards alike to be mortal lives rather than fundamentally different beings. 1 He is nevertheless willing to manipulate, intimidate, and exploit others when it advances his plans, including political allies and rivals. 74 122 133
He values knowledge above material wealth, studies history, runes, alchemy, magical languages, and Muggle technology, and frequently delegates work so that his network can operate in parallel. 6 12 48 678 679 His emotional detachment has a cost: the System determines that he cannot cast the Patronus Charm because it detects no genuinely happy memory in him. 207
Abilities & Skills
Elemental Magic
Moriarty's primary power system is elemental magic, initially accessed through the System and later expanded into multiple divine elemental forms.

- Uses Fire magic through the power obtained from the Undying Phoenix Egg. 269
- Eventually gained Earth, Wood, and Thunder elemental powers alongside Water, Wind, and Fire, allowing him to assume six divine forms. 758 763
Alchemy Matrix
Moriarty's Alchemy Matrix is an alchemical mental construct formed from his thoughts. Mr. Armor identifies it as an artificial intelligence-like Alchemy Item. 99
- Rapidly analyzes spells, memories, magical structures, and tactical possibilities. 230 357 366
- Protects his mind alongside Occlumency and can reflect mental interference back at an attacker. 230 245
- Creates isolated alchemical spaces capable of trapping or separating targets. 574
- Cannot safely analyze every ancient construct; attempting to process Salazar's cemetery array caused severe pain and nearly overwhelmed him. 265

- Developed the Alchemy Matrix partly as an additional defense against mental intrusion. 230 357
- His inability to generate a Patronus remains a major emotional limitation. 207
Parseltongue and Slytherin Magic
As Salazar's descendant, Moriarty speaks Parseltongue and possesses access to Slytherin family magic.
- Summoned Twelve Ice Serpents, frightening the Snowman Tribe and Lockhart. 4
- Uses Whispering Serpents inscribed with runes that can penetrate magical defenses. 514
- Inherited Salazar's staff, castle, diary, graveyard array, and research into the Devouring Spell. 1 6 264 265
Phoenix Animagus Traits
After devouring the Phoenix Egg, Moriarty gained Animagus potential connected to an Undying Phoenix.
- Can invoke Undying Nirvana to repeatedly restore himself within spiritual fire. 269
- Uses “First Mimicry” to manifest golden phoenix wings before achieving a full transformation. 270
- Can fly at extreme speed without consuming magic power while using the phoenix wings. 270
- Must resist the Undying Phoenix's instincts, which can interfere with his judgment. 270
Quidditch
Moriarty is an elite player whose aerial ability is enhanced by tactical intelligence and Wind magic.
- Won Slytherin's Quidditch trials by scoring 82 goals against one. 30
- Joined Britain's national team and made an immediate impact during the Quidditch World Cup. 186 214
