"I told you it was Beatrice, but Lin Yan still wouldn't believe me." Maria merely repeated what she had said before. Maria had seen the nineteenth person. She had seen the Witch. Was there really a nineteenth person, or had someone among the eighteen of us planted that idea in her head?
The only thing certain was that Maria had been with us the entire time. She always had an alibi and had done nothing suspicious. She had merely been appointed by Beatrice as a messenger and wholeheartedly believed in the Witch's existence. She definitely wasn't the nineteenth person... probably.
I had no idea what was written in the letter we found in Eva's room.
That letter should still have been on Natsuhi Ushiromiya.

Servants' Quarters.
Kanon ultimately never regained consciousness.
The desperate treatment administered by Nanjō and the others had not worked.
On this island, lacking both medicine and medical equipment, there was little in the way of proper treatment they could provide. Yet Kanon was the only person who had confronted the culprit. If only we could have gotten even a few clues from him. But by the time Kanon had been carried here, it was already too late.
"I'm terribly sorry. His injuries were too severe. Without equipment, there was nothing I could do."
"No, no one could be blamed for this. Thank you very much for doing everything you could."
Nanjō's shirt was splattered with blood. It was easy to imagine that he had desperately continued treating Kanon until the very last second. Out in the hallway, Jessica was crouched down, silently crying.
Perhaps she had watched Kanon die with her own eyes.
