Mika asked in a cold voice, though she already knew the answer.
Sometimes, relationships between girls were just this subtle. They said a woman's heart was as deep as the sea, impossible to fathom no matter how hard one tried.
"So she really isn't coming out..."
"Childhood friend?"
"Yeah. Ashika-chan. A lot has happened lately, so I've been worried about her... but it seems like she's avoiding me."
"It's fine. Maybe she turned off her phone and went somewhere to clear her head?"
Mika wore a disdainful expression, eager to stay far away as if avoiding the plague. Naturally, she had no desire to get burned, but Kagami seemed not to have caught the implication behind her words.
"That's good, then..."
Kagami was preoccupied with her thoughts.
These two girls were the first people she had met after coming to this academy, while Okubo Ashika was the childhood friend she had grown up with.
Come to think of it, they had only become this close recently.
They were practically inseparable.
Divine Leader Trait
Though Kagami and Ashika appeared to have a good relationship, the truth was that things between them were extremely delicate and difficult to describe.
They seemed close, yet were actually distant.
Mika was an outstanding student with exceptional grades, but her personality was sharp and difficult, even hard to understand at times. No one could surpass her academic evaluations; the only one capable of competing with her was Ouryou Rikako, whose vocational aptitude assessment from the Sibyl System was also excellent.
But Mika was cold by nature.
She had no interest in anything, and she was terrible at handling interpersonal relationships. Her unfiltered mouth often offended people.
She was also considered highly promising. Yet because she was aloof and sharp-tongued, she was often envied by her classmates.
