Straight sword, cloak, emblem.
These were the three standard pieces of equipment possessed by every official Night Watchman. For certain special Night Watchmen, the straight sword could be replaced with another weapon of the same material, and the style of the cloak would vary according to their squad. For example, upon joining a Special Squad, they would be issued another cloak in that squad's colors.
Ordinary Night Watchmen wore dark red cloaks, because dark red concealed bloodstains. The Mask Squad's cloaks were gray, while the Phoenix Squad's were gold...
But the emblem alone could not be replaced, reissued, or altered. To every Night Watchman, it was one of a kind.
It was a Night Watchman's life.
It could allow Night Watchmen without a Forbidden Ruin to activate one for a short time, or allow those with a Forbidden Ruin to rise an entire major realm for a short time, even at the cost of their lives.
This was the capital every Night Watchman relied upon when fighting for their lives. This was their final dignity... and faith in desperate circumstances!
—Just like the four lines of oath on its reverse.
Clearly, Instructor Hong had been interrupted... in the middle of carrying out his faith.
"Qiye, you..." Instructor Hong stared blankly at Lin Qiye. Even if beaten to death, he would never have imagined that his final moment of glory would be interrupted in such a way.
Lin Qiye walked in front of the three of them, facing the terrifying fireball poised to strike, and spoke calmly:
"Leave the rest to me."
He slowly closed his eyes. A mysterious aura emanated from his body, and his lips parted slightly.
"Bearer..."
The soul of the Goddess of Night from the hospital passed through the mental fog and descended upon the mortal world.
