"Is this the place?"
"Yes, this is it."
After an unknown amount of time, An Qingyu and Jiang Er arrived before a house.
The house was close to Erhai Lake, but it was not a villa or anything like that. It was a renovated rural self-built home with a small yard, not much different from the other houses nearby.
An Qingyu walked to the gate of the yard and was about to knock when his hand suddenly froze in midair.
After hesitating for a moment, he awkwardly asked:
"What should I say when I meet your parents?"
"That's a good question." Jiang Er frowned and thought seriously. "The key is that I can't exactly appear before them like this. If you show up alone, they'll definitely think you're a scammer..."
The two fell into deep thought before the house.
"They seem to be coming out." A moment later, An Qingyu spoke as though he had sensed something.
"Quick, quick, quick! I'll hide first!" Jiang Er cried out, immediately ducking underground. If her parents came out and saw that their daughter had become a ghost, they would probably faint on the spot.
Creak—!
Almost at the same moment, the yard gate opened. A middle-aged man around fifty sat in a wheelchair, apparently about to leave. When he saw the uneasy An Qingyu at the gate, he paused in surprise.
The woman hanging laundry in the yard immediately became wary when she saw him. She strode over and gave An Qingyu a thorough once-over.
"Who are you? What are you doing at our house?" she asked with a frown, her tone rather fierce.
Looking at the two before him, An Qingyu opened his mouth, swallowed the excuse he had just come up with, and, from somewhere, found the courage to bow deeply.
