"Can you spare my brother?"
Tang Yuehua said, "Bai Ying gave a soft laugh. It isn't that I don't want to spare him now—it's that Tang Hao refuses to spare me.
You know what happened back then. Do you think there's still any room for reconciliation after something like that? Tang Hao and Spirit Hall have already reached the point of fighting to the death. Either he dies, or I do."
Tang Yuehua's body trembled slightly, deep worry and helplessness flashing through her eyes. She looked up at Bai Ying.
"But..." Tang Yuehua's voice shook as she tried to secure a sliver of hope for her brother. "We can try to reconcile. After all..."
"There is no 'after all'!" Bai Ying cut her off, his voice cold and resolute. "Tang Hao's crimes cannot be settled through a simple reconciliation. Spirit Hall's dignity and authority cannot be challenged by anyone. He must pay the price he deserves!"
Tang Yuehua's heart sank. She knew there was no longer any room to turn back.
Yet she was unwilling to give up just like that. Taking a deep breath, she forced down the fear and unease in her heart and tried to speak in a more sincere tone. "I know this is difficult, but... my brother is not an utterly evil man. He has his own hardships and helplessness. I am willing to do everything I can to make up for his mistakes. I only ask that you give him a chance to turn over a new leaf."
Bai Ying looked at Tang Yuehua, a complicated emotion flashing through his eyes. He fell silent for a moment, as though pondering something. Tang Yuehua waited anxiously for his answer, her heart full of anticipation and unease.
At last, he slowly said, "Tang Yuehua, I have seen your sincerity. But Tang Hao's crimes cannot be erased with a few words about hardship. Still, I can give you an opportunity."
Tang Yuehua's heart leaped with joy, and she hurriedly asked, "What opportunity?"
Bai Ying smiled faintly, a crafty gleam flashing through his eyes. "I heard that you possess extraordinary talent and a rare Martial Soul. As long as you are willing to join Spirit Hall, become one of us, and serve me, I can consider sparing Tang Hao."
Tang Yuehua's face immediately went pale. She had never imagined that he would make such a demand. Joining Spirit Hall and becoming their lackey was something she could never accept. Yet if she refused, her brother's life would be in grave danger...
Bai Ying shook his head slightly. His figure flickered in the night, as though blending into the darkness around him.
"Tang Yuehua, you should know that rules are rules. They cannot be broken for personal feelings. Tang Hao's crimes have already crossed our bottom line. What I have offered you is already the greatest leniency possible."
There was an unquestionable majesty in his words that left Tang Yuehua feeling suffocated.
Tears shimmered in Tang Yuehua's eyes. She bit down hard on her lower lip, as though making an agonizing decision.
"Can't you... take one step back for me? He... is my brother, after all."
Her voice trembled with pleading, but Bai Ying remained unmoved.
Bai Ying stood quietly in the night, his voice echoing beneath the dark sky with a cruel yet steadfast force.
"Tang Yuehua, you must understand that I am merely Spirit Hall's Holy Son. My decisions are constrained by many factors. The true rulers of Spirit Hall are the Great Enshriner and the Pope. Their will is far beyond my ability to influence."
His words echoed in Tang Yuehua's ears, filling her with helplessness. She looked up at the hazy figure, a trace of despair flashing through her eyes.
Bai Ying continued, "Besides, do you truly believe your brother Tang Hao can let go of the hatred in his heart? Back then, Spirit Hall dispatched dozens of experts to hunt that Soul Beast and ultimately forced it to sacrifice itself. That kind of hatred has long seeped into his bones. Could Tang Hao really let it go so easily?"
Bai Ying sneered, and his figure gradually became clearer in the night, revealing a handsome yet cold face.
He glanced at Tang Yuehua, disdain flashing through his eyes. "And have you forgotten who your brother is? He is the renowned Clear Sky Douluo. When he had just entered the realm of a Titled Douluo, he severely injured the previous Pope, Qian Xunjie. With such combat power, how many people could stand against him? So you do not need to beg me."
His words were filled with mockery and contempt, as though Tang Hao's strength was not worth mentioning in his eyes.
Tang Yuehua trembled at his words. She bit her lower lip, anger and unwillingness flashing through her eyes.
"If anything happens to Tang Hao, I will never forgive you."
Bai Ying looked at Tang Yuehua coldly, a mocking curve rising at the corner of his mouth.
"Never forgive me? Tang Yuehua, you think too highly of yourself." His voice was calm, but it carried an unquestionable majesty.
Enraged by his words, Tang Yuehua suddenly lifted her head, determination shining in her eyes.
"Bai Ying, listen to me! If you dare hurt my brother, if anything at all happens to Tang Hao, I, Tang Yuehua, swear that no matter the price, I will never forgive you!"
Bai Ying frowned slightly. Looking at Tang Yuehua's furious yet resolute gaze, an inexplicable irritation rose in his heart.
"Tang Yuehua, are you threatening me?" His voice was low and icy, as though it came from the depths of hell.
Tang Yuehua met his gaze without fear, determination gleaming in her eyes.
"No, I am not threatening you." She spoke each word distinctly. "I am only telling you that if you dare hurt my brother, I will pay any price to take revenge on you."
Though her voice was gentle, it carried a firm and resolute force, as though she were declaring an irreversible decision.
Bai Ying's face instantly turned livid. He had not expected Tang Yuehua to be so resolute, even willing to threaten him in this way.
He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles cracking as he struggled to suppress the fury in his heart.
"Tang Yuehua, do you know what you are saying?" he said coldly, a dangerous aura seeping into his voice.
Tang Yuehua stared straight into his eyes without retreating, determination still blazing in her gaze.
"Of course I know what I am saying." She took a deep breath and continued, "If you truly dare hurt my brother, I will let the entire world know what kind of person you, Bai Ying, really are!"
With that, they both rose to their feet.
Bai Ying's expression darkened, a sharp glint flashing through his eyes. He suddenly stepped forward, seized Tang Yuehua's wrist, and pulled her toward him.
Tang Yuehua was startled by his action, but she did not struggle. She merely raised her head stubbornly and met his eyes.
"Tang Yuehua, remember your identity." Bai Ying's voice was low and icy, carrying a hint of threat. "You are my woman now. I can overlook your brother's affairs, but do not think of using them to threaten me. I, Bai Ying, have never feared threats."
Under the night sky, Bai Ying's face looked even colder and more resolute in the moonlight. He gripped Tang Yuehua's wrist tightly, vicious light flashing in his eyes.
"Tang Yuehua, if you refuse to behave, I will kill Tang San." His voice was low and icy, carrying a hint of threat.
Tang Yuehua's heart jolted. Her eyes widened as she stared at Bai Ying in disbelief. She bit her lower lip tightly, her eyes filled with fury and fear.
"You... you wouldn't dare!" she said in a trembling voice, though helplessness seeped through her tone.
Bai Ying sneered, released her hand, and shoved Tang Yuehua to the ground. He bent down, moved close to her face, and said word by word, "I would. You should know that Tang San is Tang Hao's only son. If something happened to his son, how mad do you think he would become?"
In the night, Bai Ying slowly bent down, his face especially stern beneath the moonlight. He gently kissed Tang Yuehua's lips. Tang Yuehua's eyes widened in shock at once. She tried to struggle, but he held her tightly, leaving her unable to move.
Anger and humiliation surged through Tang Yuehua's heart like a tide. She bit her lower lip, determination flashing in her eyes. Struggling to raise her head, she met Bai Ying's gaze and tried to convey her dissatisfaction and anger through her eyes.
However, Bai Ying seemed not to see the fury in her eyes. He said coldly, "If I do not encounter Tang Hao in the future, I will not make the first move. But if he attacks first, then he cannot blame me."
"I can guarantee that my brother will not take the initiative to attack you." Though her voice was weak, it carried unquestionable resolve. "But you must also promise that you will never harm my brother."
Bai Ying raised an eyebrow slightly. Looking at Tang Yuehua's determined gaze, an inexplicable emotion rose in his heart. He fell silent for a moment before slowly saying, "That depends on your performance."
Under the night sky, Bai Ying and Tang Yuehua stood facing each other, the atmosphere tense and subtle. Bai Ying stared intently at Tang Yuehua, blazing light flickering in his eyes as though he wanted to devour her whole.
Feeling his intense gaze, Tang Yuehua could not help feeling flustered. She took a deep breath, tried to calm herself, then raised her head and met his eyes.
"I will not disappoint you," she said softly, a trace of determination and resolve in her voice.
The moment she finished speaking, she suddenly rose onto her toes and kissed Bai Ying of her own accord. Bai Ying was momentarily stunned. He had not expected Tang Yuehua to take such initiative.
Their lips pressed tightly together. Tang Yuehua closed her eyes, as though pouring all her emotions into that kiss. Bai Ying was also moved by her action. He wrapped his arms around Tang Yuehua tightly and deepened the kiss.
"What did you say? Xiao Wu got into a fight with someone and lost?" Bai Ying could hardly believe his ears. He abruptly rose to his feet, his face so grim it seemed as though water could drip from it.
He had barely finished his work for the night when he received this news.
Bai Ying simply could not believe it. If Ning Rongrong had not sent this person to inform him, he would never have known such a thing had happened.
He grabbed the subordinate delivering the news, his eyes fixed on him as though trying to see through him. Frightened by his imposing presence, the subordinate trembled and stammered, "Y-yes... Miss Xiao Wu got into an argument with someone today, and then they started fighting. But... but the other party was very strong. Miss Xiao Wu was no match for him..."
"I heard someone was harassing her."
Bai Ying's expression became even uglier. He released his grip, and the subordinate stumbled and fell to the ground. Bai Ying ignored him and strode out of the room. Fury filled his heart. Xiao Wu was his sister, and even more so, his lover!
Bai Ying hurried along the street, rage burning in his heart. The image of Xiao Wu being harassed kept surfacing in his mind, filling him with immense anger and worry.
Before long, Bai Ying arrived at the scene. From afar, he saw a crowd gathered together, talking among themselves. He quickly approached and pushed through the crowd, only to see Xiao Wu standing in the center, her face cold as she confronted a burly young man.
That young man was Tailong, the young master of the Strength Clan. He looked arrogantly at Xiao Wu, his eyes filled with lecherous light. The surrounding crowd pointed and murmured about this sudden conflict.
When Bai Ying saw this, the fury in his heart intensified. He strode forward, pulled Xiao Wu behind him, and looked coldly at Tailong.
Bai Ying stood before Xiao Wu, his gaze cutting toward Tailong like blades. He was tall and straight, his presence overwhelming, like an immovable mountain. Intimidated by his aura, Tailong could not help taking a step back, though the lecherous look in his eyes did not fade.
"So you're the one who bullied my woman?" Bai Ying's voice was cold and low, as though it had emerged from the deepest hell, sending chills down everyone's spine. Chilling killing intent flashed in his eyes, as though terrifying power could erupt at any moment.
Tailong was shaken by his gaze, and much of his arrogance immediately vanished. But as the young master of a powerful faction, he did not want to lose face before the crowd, so he forced himself to say, "So what if I did? This little beauty is pretty. I just wanted her to keep me company."
The moment Xiao Wu heard Tailong's words, fury surged through her. She raised her fist and wanted to rush forward to teach Tailong a lesson. However, Bai Ying tightly grabbed her arm. He lowered his head to look at her, a gentle light flashing through his eyes as he softly said, "Don't be impulsive. Let me handle this."
After saying that, he released Xiao Wu's arm and turned to face Tailong. His eyes were filled with coldness and killing intent, as though he wanted to swallow Tailong whole. He slowly took a step forward, each step seeming to land upon Tailong's heart and filling him with intense palpitations.
"You're very good. Very good indeed." Bai Ying's voice was low and icy, as though it came from hell. "You have completely enraged me."
As soon as he spoke, Bai Ying's figure suddenly vanished from the spot, leaving only an afterimage behind. Before Tailong could react, he felt an enormous force strike from behind. His entire body was sent flying. He crashed heavily onto the ground, grimacing in pain and unable to get up for a long while.
The surrounding people all gasped. They had not expected this suddenly appearing young man to be so powerful, sending the young master of the Strength Clan flying with a single move.
Bai Ying ignored the cries of astonishment around him. He walked over to Tailong, crouched down, and looked at him coldly.
"Remember, there are some people you cannot afford to provoke." Bai Ying's voice was low and icy, making Tailong's heart tremble. He knew he had kicked an iron plate this time, and regret rose in his heart. However, it was already too late for regret. He could only watch helplessly as Bai Ying left with Xiao Wu, his heart filled with anger and unwillingness.
