"Blood Abyss?" Shen Che raised a brow. "What kind of place is that?"
Xue Binghe's face had gone somewhat pale. He stared fixedly at the beast-hide map, as though he had seen something utterly terrifying.
"This is the oldest legend of the Northern Territory, and its greatest taboo." He lowered his voice. "Legend says that at the end of the earth, in the eternally frozen lands of the far north, there is an abyss connected to the Nine Nether Demon Realm, called the 'Blood Abyss.'"
"According to the legends, there is no ice or snow there, only a boundless sea of blood. Any living being that draws near will have every drop of blood essence drained away, becoming part of the blood sea, condemned to never be reborn for all eternity."
Xue Xi and Tu Rong also leaned closer. Hearing Xue Binghe's account, fear appeared on both girls' faces.
"Father, it's only a legend, isn't it? Didn't the sect's records say it was merely a story fabricated by the ancients?" Xue Xi could not help asking.
"I used to think it was just a story too." Xue Binghe gave a bitter laugh and pointed to the two twisted ancient characters on the beast-hide scroll. "But this script is Demonic Script, used during the Dark Era three thousand years ago, when demons and monsters ran rampant. The founding patriarch of our Heavenly Snow Sect once took part in the ancient war to eradicate demons and left behind some records concerning Demonic Script."
He looked at Shen Che, his expression incomparably grave. "This beast-hide scroll may not be some legendary map at all, but a genuine record from the Dark Era!"
The atmosphere within the Scripture Pavilion instantly became oppressive.
