Background / History
When Su Changqing was left without a master because of his extremely poor spiritual roots, Shui Yue volunteered to accept him. Her decision broke Little Bamboo Peak’s female-only tradition; she explained that she could not bear to see an orphaned child sent to the Outer Sect as a menial laborer. Dao Xuan approved the exception, with the arrangement that Su Changqing could move to another peak once older while retaining her as master. 3
Shui Yue brought Su Changqing to Little Bamboo Peak, formally introduced him as her disciple, and ordered its female cultivators not to exclude him. She began teaching him the Taiji Xuanqing Dao and later provided him a residence near her own secluded cultivation cave when his poor aptitude made sustained cultivation difficult. 4 5
When Su Changqing sought leave to find the Desolate Immortal Orchid on Nine Yin Mountain, Shui Yue objected out of concern for his safety and gave him a talisman capable of blocking one fatal Foundation Establishment-realm attack. After hearing that demonic cultivators and a heavenly treasure were connected to Nine Yin Mountain, she volunteered for the Qingyun expedition largely because Su Changqing was already there. 10 13
During the conflict at Nine Yin Mountain, Shui Yue and Tian Buyi confronted the Poison God. Both were poisoned and badly wounded, but an unidentified sword-energy attack gave them the opening to launch a joint counterattack and drive him away. Shui Yue later became increasingly suspicious that the anonymous helper had been Su Changqing. 24 38
At the Seven Meridians Martial Arts Tournament, Shui Yue knowingly pushed Su Changqing to participate despite his attempts to hide his strength. She recognized that he had feigned injury in his spar with Lu Xueqi, but played along and protected his secret. 28 29
After Su Changqing won the tournament and collapsed from the championship battle, Shui Yue personally attended to his recovery. She was present when he awakened to the Core Formation Realm and discussed the sect’s plan to send him to Wanfu Ancient Cave. 49 50
Personality
Shui Yue is usually cold, aloof, and disinclined to involve herself in external affairs. Her fellow Peak Lords are surprised when she voluntarily joins the Nine Yin Mountain mission, as she normally prefers quiet cultivation at the sect. 13
Beneath that reserved manner, she is compassionate and deeply protective of her disciples. She accepted Su Changqing despite his aptitude and the conventions of her peak, worried constantly during his absence, and prioritized his safety even when he concealed much of his true strength. 3 10 17 25
She is also perceptive and patient. Although she sees through Su Changqing’s staged injury and suspects that he has hidden his cultivation for a long time, she does not expose him publicly. 28 29 38
