Beneath the meadow, the water churned wildly. Unable to use even a shred of spiritual energy while concealing their auras, the two clutched at the aquatic grass and waited quietly and patiently.
The patrol soldiers had secret searching arts, but the two women had experience in hiding as well. Over the years, they had crossed countless battlefields and passed through many perilous places. Their skill in fighting and spellcasting far surpassed that of ordinary immortals and gods, and they were adept at all manner of concealment and stealth. They were only three ordinary immortal soldiers; even an immortal general passing by would not be able to discover them.
The three patrol soldiers rode white cranes as they swept rapidly through the high sky.
Ink-black clouds pressed low, as though one could raise a hand and touch the roiling, flowing darkness. The three white cranes darted between bolts of lightning connecting to the marsh, trailing long streams of white vapor as they cried out proudly.
The majestic white cranes spread their wings and soared, while the immortal soldiers looked imposing and naturally commanding, making for an exceedingly impressive sight.
The immortal soldiers swept their gazes across the marsh and sky, weapons in hand as they tensely guarded against all around them. In a dangerous place, they could not relax in the slightest.
Riding cranes on patrol looked glamorous, but their hearts were full of unspoken bitterness. On the surface, they were diligently searching for infiltrators, but what they were really searching for was danger.
