Houses and buildings swayed, old roof tiles fell with crackling snaps, dust billowed as the masses of ghosts panicked. Conscious souls fled madly, while unconscious souls still wandered about instinctively and aimlessly. Paper effigies, paper oxen, and paper horses froze, unable to move. In a small courtyard somewhere along the streets, a soul who had once been brutally beaten by the dragon clan and had been left in the underworld by some fairy wailed loudly. He crawled out of the ruins, rolling and scrambling, then staggered about like a headless fly.
