A stone path slanted through the deep mountains, and a white-haired woodcutter hurried along.
The blazing sun hung overhead, heat making sweat stream down. Birds and beasts alike seemed unable to bear the heat and hid beneath the shade of trees. Mountain folk labored in their fields, never noticing faint streaks of light falling into the deep mountains. The cultivators wandering near the pit were utterly unaware that an immortal had descended.
On the hillside, two child attendants at a hidden cave residence swept the courtyard, trembling with fear that they might make even the slightest mistake.
