More than ten days flashed by.
The rain drizzled without end, the oppressive gray skies seeming to mirror sorrow and despair.
At the bamboo house beside the giant boulder in Snake Valley, the firewood was damp. As Guo Zhen lit the fire and cooked, the smoke made her cough and weep. She did not know whether it was the smoke stinging her eyes or the grief in her heart. Perhaps living alone in these desolate mountains was simply too hard; perhaps her husband had failed to return long past his expected date. The unease in her heart grew ever stronger, and her tears fell like pearls from a broken string.
Thinking back to Yang Ning's resolute departure, she always felt that she had held him back.
"Husband, I'm sorry..."
Warm tears ran down her cheeks, impossible to wipe dry. If Time Rewind were possible, she would hold him back no matter what and refuse to let him leave. As time passed, despair steadily filled her heart.
If Yang Ning still did not return in a few more days, Guo Zhen would choose to end the rest of her life and seek him in the underworld.
"Cough, cough..."
The rainy gloom was oppressive, and thick smoke billowed from the damp firewood.
Guo Zhen crouched before the campfire, wiping her tears as she sobbed. When she looked up, she suddenly saw a blurry figure in the distance through her tears. She hurriedly rubbed her eyes, but the thick smoke obscured her sight again. With a desolate smile, she thought she was simply seeing things because she missed him too much.
A breeze blew past, pushing the smoke to one side. Through tear-blurred eyes, Guo Zhen saw a stubbly man standing at the gate of the fenced yard. It was Yang Ning...
"Husband..."
