Wang Wu's heart jolted, and he silently counted himself lucky. Had he been one step slower, he would have crawled out of his hiding place. Without the boost from Level 8 Passive Stealth, the chances of him being discovered would have been enormous.
At that moment, he pricked up his ears and sensed carefully, yet found nothing at all. He could not even smell the faint trace of blood carried on the breeze anymore.
It was as if nothing had happened.
But he understood that this pitch-black night was far more dangerous than usual. Either that bloody scent had drifted from an extremely distant place, or the other party possessed a higher-level concealment technique that his Level 6 Danger Sense could not reach.
"I've been focused on increasing my base defense lately and haven't upgraded Danger Sense. That's become a new weakness."
Wang Wu pondered, and his emotions swiftly settled.
There was nothing much to fear. He had been maintaining Level 8 Passive Stealth all along, making the odds of the other party discovering him extremely low. Besides, he had no intention of fighting, so it mattered even less.
For all he knew, that bloody scent might have come from several kilometers away.
Another ten-odd minutes passed like this. As a faint night breeze swept by once more, he caught that trace of blood again. It seemed closer now, yet his Danger Sense still found nothing.
Only after a while did he finally hear very faint footsteps. They were already quite close, around fifty meters away, coming from the south and moving north along the valley.
As the footsteps continued drawing nearer, Wang Wu roughly made out some information.
"Seems like there are five of them. No, one demon has too many feet—I can't tell for sure. They aren't moving
