When Violet Gold Three Minutes began, Wang Wu finally became certain that the Gray Rats had not been lying in ambush for him.
Because those five White-Haired Rats were absorbing Golden Particles.
Without them involved, Wang Wu relaxed considerably. He jogged all the way back toward the cliff, to the rock crevice that belonged to him, and waited there for Silver Three Minutes to arrive.
Golden Three Minutes was good, but he was afraid he would not get to enjoy it.
Soon, golden sunlight spilled down in scattered rays, but it was already the lingering tail end.
It took Wang Wu two minutes and fifteen seconds to gather 10 points of spiritual energy. Added to the 10 points he had gained yesterday from those two Broadsword Mantises, it was exactly enough for one upgrade.
This time, he chose the Danger Sense talent without the slightest hesitation and raised it to Level 2.
Over this period, he had suffered no small amount because his Danger Sense talent was too low.
Once the upgrade was complete, Wang Wu did not care that Silver Three Minutes had not yet ended. He decisively turned and ran, sprinting all the way to the stream, drinking his fill, then heading straight for Berry Plains.
Then he froze. A huge leaf had already been laid out there, with exactly fifteen berries piled on top. In the distance, the four Gray Rat Knights saw him but did not call out. They merely continued striking those strange poses.
Well now, they were quite sincere.
Wang Wu did not hesitate. The five White-Haired Rats were still on the low hill and could not possibly ambush him at a time like this, so he was more than happy to save himself the trouble of picking them. He stepped forward and wolfed them down.
These Gray Rats had thought things through rather thoroughly.
But making me trust you? Dream on.
After eating and drinking his fill, Wang Wu went back and forth across the stream twice, found another dense patch of grass, and began his daily hibernation.
And sure enough, the Gray Rat Knights did not launch another large-scale hunt for him. It was as if the two sides had truly buried the hatchet and become one big loving family from then on.
Wang Wu was more than happy with that. Keep the sugar coating and send the cannonballs back—what was wrong with that?
Another two peaceful days passed. Every day, Wang Wu absorbed spiritual energy only during Silver Three Minutes, and each time he was exceedingly cautious. The moment he gathered 10 points of spiritual energy, he immediately ran, resolutely refusing to give any potential enemy the chance to block him in.
Then, once his spiritual energy reached 20 points, he chose to upgrade the Danger Sense talent again.
After obtaining Level 3 Danger Sense, Wang Wu pretended to continue as usual. After eating and drinking his fill, he found a patch of grass and entered Level 5 Stealth.
But about half an hour later, he silently left the grass and began wandering through the bushes, relying on his Level 3 Danger Sense.
Of course, this was not for fun. He wanted to test the strength and effects of Level 3 Danger Sense so he could prepare for his later plans.
After making this roundabout circuit, he felt both excited and worried.
What excited him was that Level 3 Danger Sense was indeed powerful. It could almost let him sense any Sprite within a fifty-meter radius that might pose a threat to him, allowing him to calmly detour around them and avoid exposing himself.
With this sharp weapon, combined with his Level 5 Stealth talent, it would no longer be easy for Sprites like the Four Heroes of the Valley and the Eight Steeds of the Jungle to ambush him.
What worried him was that he knew perfectly well that Level 3 Danger Sense probably still could not detect beings on the level of the Black Snake Priest or Fire Scorpion Priest in advance.
If he wanted to go borrow some fire from the Flame Scorpion Lineage again, the consequences would probably not be pleasant.
"Chirp chirp chirp chirp!"
Two Little Red Birds skimmed low over the bushes, completely failing to notice Wang Wu below. It was already late morning. The valley, lively all morning long, was gradually settling into silence. The terrifying daily daytime hush was approaching again.
After thinking it over, Wang Wu gave the Little Red Birds' territory a wide berth and crept toward the cliff. He wanted to find an opportunity to see whether he could catch a lone Flame Scorpion off guard and borrow some fire.
And that required him to get as close to the cliff as possible.
Thinking about it, Wang Wu only now realized why the foot of the cliff, as well as the other low hills, had a stretch of open ground extending more than thirty meters outward, with no bushes or trees growing there at all.
Now it seemed likely that these Sprites had made it this way to expand their field of surveillance.
Even the reason he had been attacked by the Fire Scorpion Priest last time was probably that he had been exposed at this point.
Unfortunately, his Level 5 Stealth talent required him to remain completely still. It would have been great if he could maintain it while moving.
With these thoughts in mind, Wang Wu hid in the grass thirty-five meters from that rock crevice and waited for his chance.
But today's sun was especially vicious, as though the entire valley were about to be baked until it smoked.
He hardly dared raise his head to look at the sky, because all around him, above and below, it seemed as if the sun had created countless shadow clones. The sky was clearly gray and hazy, yet the glare was blinding.
"Could it be about to pour?"
A realization arose in Wang Wu's heart. Come to think of it, he had been transported to this world for more than ten days already, yet every day had been clear and cloudless. He had nearly forgotten that rain was even a thing.
Rain meant flash floods. And if there were several consecutive overcast days, with no sun in the morning, would there not be no Golden Particles either?
A sense of urgency surged through Wang Wu. Whether it was the keen perception brought by Level 3 Danger Sense or his fear of the rainy season from his memories of being human, in any case, he immediately realized that he could no longer pretend to be Garen in the grass from now on.
Level 5 Stealth was indeed damn powerful, but if flash floods came, he would still die without a sound.
Therefore, he had to take back that rock crevice.
Just as he was thinking this, Wang Wu's heart suddenly stirred. More than twenty meters away, seven or eight Black Widows, each as large as washbasins, rapidly descended from a scraggly tree seven or eight meters tall.
It was the Black Widow family. They were not the same kind as the Blood Spider Empress beneath the rocks on the cliff's southwestern side, nor were they the same kind as those Grass-top Flyer spiders.
What were they doing?
If he remembered correctly, these Black Widows usually came out to hunt at night, yet it was broad daylight now...
No, they were weaving webs!
But not the kind of webs used to hunt prey. Wang Wu could not make sense of them, yet he felt deeply shaken.
"Don't tell me they're preparing for heavy rain too?"
"Or even a rainy season that will last for a month, perhaps several months?"
Wang Wu immediately became highly alert. Having no spiritual energy income would be a devastating blow to him. By then, heaven and earth would be a vast expanse of water, and the rainy season—
"Wait, those White-Haired Rats!"
He suddenly thought of the Gray Rats' appeasement strategy over the past few days. It looked as though they had reconciled with him, but once the rainy season arrived, the White-Haired Rats, with their ice magic, would have heaven's timing, favorable terrain, and the people's support. The Flame Scorpion Lineage, on the other hand, would be in for a real headache.
At that thought, Wang Wu could not help raising his head to look at the towering cliff ahead.
That territory, which had originally belonged to the Black Snake Clan, showed no sign of any living creature at this moment. It looked like abandoned ground. Surely there could not be Scorpion Sentinels closely watching this place, right?
To hell with it!
A torrential downpour would very likely break out in the afternoon. He needed a place to shelter from the rain and avoid flash floods.
Wang Wu hardened his heart, rushed out of the bushes, and sprinted straight for the rock crevice.
At that moment, his Level 3 Danger Sense immediately yielded a great deal of information, something that had never happened before.
Among these danger-filled signals were the Black Widow family, as well as nearly a dozen spots in the nearby grass. No way—did great minds think alike?
But just as he was about to reach that rock crevice, less than five meters away, Level 3 Danger Sense finally sent him a terrifying sensation that made his hair stand on end.
"Fuck!"
"There's an ambush in the rock crevice!"
