Not long after the first class ended, a rumor suddenly spread through Gryffindor.
"Did you know? Snape took the day off and didn't teach today."
"Praise Merlin, I have his class tomorrow!"
"Don't celebrate too soon. Maybe he only took one day off."
"Oh no—what if he's seriously ill?"
"He's a Potions Master. He can probably cure minor illnesses and injuries in no time."
By lunchtime, the rumor had grown increasingly outrageous.
Some said Snape had contracted some terrible terminal illness, while others claimed he had done something wrong and been thrown into Azkaban.
The most absurd version of all came from a pair of fourth-year twins.
"Snape ate something bad last night and upset his stomach."
A guileless little Hufflepuff tilted his head. "And then?"
"Then he kept going to the toilet until he died. Before dawn, he was already cremated."
The little badgers nervously looked around.
"Please, could you two make your rumor at least a little more believable?" Cedric gestured toward the Slytherin table. "Flint and the others haven't reacted at all. If something had happened to Snape, they would definitely know before you two did."
Fred pouted. "They've always been this cold-blooded and heartless."
"Exactly." George spoke with absolute conviction. "If their families are worried about anything, it'll be the next trial. Snape can't help them with that anyway."
Cedric had no response.
"I think Vincent did something." Rolf pointed toward the Gryffindor table. "The last time they looked like this was when they wanted to know how the Ministry of Magic would deal with that bunch of wizard scum, right?"
Fred and George grinned wickedly as they hauled Cedric up.
"Hey! If you're going, then go yourselves. Why drag me along?"
"Because you look like a good person."
"And you're sturdy. You can take a beating."
"Rolf, save me!"
At a small corner of the table, Vincent was being sandwiched between Hermione and Daphne.
"Do I look like the kind of person who'd poison Snape?"
Neither young witch looked doubtful. They seemed certain he had done something even more terrifying.
"What you transfigured in Transfiguration class just now was clearly a miniature Snape."
He knew Hermione had noticed something. "Neville transfigured that."
"Without your careful guidance, that little person wouldn't have turned out so much like him."
Daphne nodded her little head. "We won't tell anyone."
Vincent quickly glanced around, then gestured for them to lean closer.
"Remember to keep this secret..."
At first, the two young witches were extremely shocked. Then they found it only natural, and finally, they even felt a tiny bit ashamed.
Their perspective had been too narrow.
Poisoning, sneak attacks, and underhanded tricks were ultimately just petty cleverness. If they were going to do something, they should do it openly and aboveboard.
"Old Bat is so pitiful—sob sob—"
Hermione and Daphne, who had been about to say something, tilted their heads in confusion.
That voice...
Vincent bent down to look beneath the table.
Well then—four more big faces.
"It was Ced's idea!"
"You were clearly the ones who dragged me here!"
"Then why didn't you resist?"
"I—I—"... Hermione and Daphne hurriedly clutched the hems of their skirts around their knees. "Hey, how much longer are you going to stay under there!"
Ever the gentleman, Vincent stood and moved his chair aside. "I remember someone crawling under a table last year too. If I remember correctly, you all seemed to turn into the people you used to hate most."
Faced with the accusations of the three of them, Cedric, who crawled out first, lowered his head.
He was ashamed to the extreme, and suddenly glared viciously at Fred and George behind him.
He hadn't done anything wrong to begin with; those two were the real culprits.
Rolf thought the same way.
All the Little Badgers had thick brows and big eyes—how could they possibly be perverts who peeked under girls' skirts?
"Cough, cough—" Fred awkwardly rubbed his nose. "Actually, we came to look for Little White."
"Nonsense!" Rolf's eyes widened. "It went to the kitchen with Gu Gu and Leif!"
George shrugged as if nothing had happened. "So that's what happened. No wonder we couldn't find it anywhere."
Hermione shook her head, her face full of exasperation. "That excuse is terrible."
Cedric said pitifully, "I never intended to make an excuse."
"Me neither." Rolf lowered his head in agreement.
Like children who had made a mistake, Daphne stopped puffing out her cheeks. She had probably forgiven them.
But as for Fred and George...
Vincent returned to his usual seat.
"What's wrong with them?" Neville pointed at Fred and George, who were pouring tea and massaging the shoulders of the two young witches.
"Oh, they recently acquired two servants."
So that was it. Better get back to eating.
After they had eaten their fill, it was time for two back-to-back Potions Classes.
It would definitely be more than 190 points—surely they would set a new record again.
Vincent, who had quite an appetite, ate two extra desserts and still looked somewhat unsatisfied.
James and Alfred were impressed.
With uneasy hearts, the Little Lions timidly made their way down to the dungeons.
Second by second, the smiles on the Little Snakes' faces grew brighter and brighter.
"Ha, Wayne is finished!" Draco grinned smugly.
Their Head of House was surely waiting outside to catch any late students.
"And Granger too." Crabbe sneered viciously. "Maybe they've already been caught and are serving detention in some room in the dungeons."
Goyle let out a loud laugh. "Greengrass still isn't here either. We're in for quite a show later."
Pansy gazed complicatedly at the empty seat at the far right of the front row.
Gradually, her gaze turned cold.
Since she had chosen to get close to Muggles, she had to be prepared to pay the corresponding price.
As the bell rang, her expression became gleeful with anticipation.
Five minutes later, light footsteps sounded outside the classroom.
There was more than one person—it was probably the three late students.
Draco was already prepared to burst out laughing.
The moment they entered the classroom, their Head of House would silently appear...
Gryffindor would lose 100 points!
Wayne would clean the Slytherin dormitories for an entire year!
The tapping footsteps drew closer and closer.
When Draco saw Vincent's especially irritating face, his ecstasy became impossible to describe... but then nothing happened.
He watched helplessly as his sworn enemy entered safely, then stared blankly as he walked up to the podium.
"Cough, cough—Professor Snape has some personal matters to attend to, so everyone will study on their own for this class."
Draco's smug little face instantly twisted into a knot.
But that wasn't all.
Vincent spread his hands and pointed at Hermione and Daphne, who had just taken their seats.
"Professor Snape also specifically instructed two students to maintain classroom discipline. On the Gryffindor side, Granger is in charge; on the Slytherin side, Greengrass is in charge."
"What kind of joke is this?!" Draco immediately slammed his hand on the desk and stood up.
"Wayne, do you really think we'd believe that bullshit coming from a bastard like you?!"
"Believe whatever you want." Vincent shrugged indifferently.
"I didn't believe it at first either, but after seeing Professor Snape like that—"
He suddenly fell silent and let out a long sigh. "I hope he can return to work soon. After all, he's such a good professor."
Draco's little face went pale, and he slumped limply back into his chair.
He was a School Board Member now. Even if he did not have the authority to kick out a dean, it would be easy enough to stir up trouble behind the scenes.
That had to be it!
Just like how his Dad had gone after Dumbledore last year!
