Ch. 162The Shadow Clone Plan

Gengetsu extracted most of Kokuō’s chakra from Han and questioned him about Boil Release while Konoha prepared to counter the Iwa Ninja. After Iwa squads began avoiding him, Gengetsu persuaded Jiraiya to let his Shadow Clones operate independently and disrupt enemy forces.

  • Gengetsu found Kokuō unwilling to trust him, so he restrained Han and sealed roughly seventy percent of the Five-Tails’ chakra in a scroll.
  • Gengetsu forced Han to share his Boil Release cultivation experience when Jiraiya arrived.
  • Danzo led Root Ninja out of Konoha toward the Land of Rain, and Konoha launched an attack on the Iwa Ninja the next day.
  • Gengetsu’s Shadow Clones worked with Konoha squads, but Iwa Ninja began retreating whenever they saw him.
  • Gengetsu proposed sending Shadow Clones behind enemy lines to draw Iwa forces away from the Land of Grass, and Jiraiya approved the plan.
  • Gengetsu retrieved blank sealing scrolls in Shikkotsu Forest, made Summoning Scrolls, and used one after returning to the Land of Rain.

Ch. 163Immortal No. 1, Reporting for Duty!

Gengetsu sent Moon Sage Shadow Clones toward Kannabi Bridge and the Iwa reinforcements while preparing a diversion with ten more clones. The Iwa command recognized the threat, dispatched squads to intercept the clones, and decided to set a trap to draw Gengetsu's main body into battle.

  • Gengetsu sent two Moon Sage Shadow Clones, accompanied by Little Katsuyus, toward Kannabi Bridge and the Iwa reinforcements.
  • Gengetsu created ten weaker Shadow Clones to divert the Iwa Ninja and returned to the Medical Outpost to heal the wounded.
  • The Iwa command learned that two of the twelve Shadow Clones had powerful Chakra and were heading toward the Land of Rain and the Land of Grass.
  • Jugan ordered Kitsuchi and elite squads to intercept the clones, reinforce the Land of Grass, and protect the Iwa reinforcements.
  • An Iwa Ninja proposed trapping Gengetsu's companions to lure out his main body, and Jugan ordered the trap prepared.

Ch. 164Not Even a Minute

Gengetsu sent a Shadow Clone to disrupt the Iwa Ninja defenses, but it was destroyed in a trap at the camp. Back at the Medical Outpost, he began planning a stronger attack and learned that Moon Sage had been intercepted in the Land of Grass.

  • Gengetsu sent a Shadow Clone toward the Iwa Ninja Camp to weaken its defenses for Jiraiya and the Konoha forces.
  • The Shadow Clone broke through four defensive lines, killing two Iwa Ninja Jonin before reaching the camp.
  • Jugan, Roshi, and other Iwa Ninja trapped the Shadow Clone and destroyed it in a coordinated attack.
  • Hyuga Mana reported the clone's defeat to Jiraiya, who noted that the Iwa Ninja had prepared for Gengetsu in advance.
  • At the Medical Outpost, Gengetsu planned to combine Metal, Water, and Ice Release against the camp, then learned from Little Katsuyu that Moon Sage had been intercepted in the Land of Grass.

Ch. 165Moon Sage, Here I Come!

Moon Sage fought through Iwa Ninja defenses in the Land of Grass and used Demi-Sage Mode’s intangibility to kill the squad. The chapter left Kitsuchi and his troops discovering a corpse had been manipulated to attack them, prompting a search for the nearby enemy.

  • Moon Sage detected four Iwa Jonin squads and killed a scout who had mistaken him for a decoy.
  • Moon Sage broke through the Iwa Ninja’s seals and traps, then used Demi-Sage Mode to pass unharmed through attacks and kill the remaining fighters.
  • Moon Sage noted that combining intangibility with Lightning Release Chakra Mode worked well but consumed considerable Chakra.
  • Kitsuchi and the Iwa Ninja arrived at the battlefield and saw Tota’s corpse stab a companion.
  • Kitsuchi knocked Tota away, warned the squad to avoid the corpses, and ordered them to search for the Puppet Manipulation user.

Ch. 166Ice Sealing Barrier

Gengetsu used Shadow Clones to stretch Iwa's forces across the Land of Rain, while one clone reached Kannabi Bridge and was surrounded by Kitsuchi's elite troops. Unable to destroy the bridge, Moon Sage changed his mission to inflicting casualties and unleashed Ice Release as the battle began.

  • After hearing that Kitsuchi's forces were pursuing him, Gengetsu trained at Konoha's medical outpost while Little Katsuyu monitored the battles involving his Shadow Clones.
  • The next morning, Gengetsu learned that one clone had lured away more than half of Iwa's reinforcements, and he created two more clones to tie down Iwa's forces.
  • A clone reached Kannabi Bridge but was surrounded by at least three hundred Iwa Ninja, including Kitsuchi, with only one-third of its Chakra remaining.
  • Gengetsu ordered the clone to abandon destroying the bridge and inflict as many casualties as possible; Moon Sage dismissed Little Katsuyu and prepared for a final battle.
  • Moon Sage challenged Kitsuchi to a duel, then revealed that he was Gengetsu's third Dragon Vein Chakra Mode form when the Iwa Ninja questioned his identity.
  • Kitsuchi's earth technique crushed Moon Sage between two boulders, but Moon Sage emerged unharmed and spread an Ice Sealing Barrier across the ground.

Ch. 167Retreat

Uzumaki Gengetsu used the Ice Sealing Barrier and Rasenshuriken to cripple the Iwa Ninja assault, prompting Kitsuchi to order a strategic retreat. At the medical unit, Gengetsu reunited with Guy’s team and warned that the Iwa retreat might be a ploy.

  • Kitsuchi led twelve Iwa Jonin into the Ice Sealing Barrier, where Uzumaki Gengetsu used the ice to move and killed several of them.
  • The Iwa Ninja destroyed the frozen terrain with Exploding Tags and combined techniques, breaking the Ice Sealing Barrier.
  • Uzumaki Gengetsu threw a Sage Art—Wind Release—Rasenshuriken that devastated the battlefield and struck six Jonin, while a Chunin reported another Shadow Clone approaching from the Land of Rain.
  • Kitsuchi learned that Gengetsu’s Shadow Clones were continuing to pressure the Iwa forces and decided their existing plan was necessary.
  • Guy, Genma Shiranui, and Ebisu arrived as reinforcements for the medical unit, and Guy told Gengetsu that Might Dai had fully recovered.
  • A Medical Ninja reported that the Iwa Ninja had retreated, and Gengetsu cautioned that they might be trading space for time.

Ch. 168Gravity Technique

Uzumaki Gengetsu tested a new technique on Ebisu’s Shadow Clones and discovered he could increase their mass fivefold, naming the ability the Gravity Technique. He suspected the technique depended on Dust Release and began testing whether it worked without Dragon Vein Chakra Mode.

  • Konoha’s forces gained confidence as Gengetsu’s Shadow Clones disrupted Iwa’s defenses and his medical ninjutsu restored injured soldiers.
  • Ebisu complained to Genma Shiranui that he had not fought recently, while Genma pointed out Guy’s rapid improvement through training with Gengetsu.
  • Gengetsu asked Ebisu to help test a dangerous new technique, and Guy volunteered before Genma and Ebisu created Shadow Clones.
  • Gengetsu’s first test caused Ebisu’s Shadow Clone to experience crushing pressure, and his second increased the clone’s mass until it felt five times heavier.
  • Gengetsu called the ability the Gravity Technique, theorized that it might rely on Dust Release, and began testing it outside Dragon Vein Chakra Mode.

Ch. 169The Death of Uchiha Masamizu

Gengetsu’s experiments with Gravity Technique were interrupted when Jiraiya reported that Uchiha Shinsui and Kanzuki Chiba had been trapped behind Iwa Ninja lines. Gengetsu set out to rescue them, but Shinsui died before he could arrive, and Gengetsu descended upon the Iwa Ninja as they moved to capture Chiba.

  • Gengetsu failed to use Gravity Technique with his own Chakra and considered how Dust Release and gravity might lead to stronger abilities.
  • Jiraiya told Gengetsu that the Iwa Ninja had counterattacked and surrounded Shinsui and Chiba, and Gengetsu resolved to rescue them and defeat Iwa.
  • Shinsui and Chiba realized the Iwa Ninja had staged a trap to draw Gengetsu in, while Shinsui was too badly injured to escape.
  • Shinsui gave Chiba his Sharingan and asked her to deliver them to Gengetsu, then died before she could save him.
  • Routo ordered his Iwa Ninja to capture Chiba alive, but Gengetsu arrived from above and forced them to retreat.

Ch. 170Stone Dragon

Gengetsu rescued Kanzuki Chiba and recovered Uchiha Shinsui’s corpse before facing hundreds of Iwa Ninja inside their barrier. He summoned the Stone Dragon with Ao Cang and devastated the enemy ranks, but an Iwa Ninja reached the dragon’s head and charged toward him.

  • Gengetsu healed Kanzuki Chiba, stored Uchiha Shinsui’s corpse in a Sealing Scroll, and sent Chiba to Ironstone Island with Jiro’s Reverse Summoning Technique.
  • The Iwa Ninja completed a barrier around Gengetsu, and he sensed at least four hundred enemies, including around forty Jonin.
  • Gengetsu and Ao Cang summoned the Stone Dragon, whose attacks scattered and killed Iwa Ninja while its body regenerated from damage.
  • Routo and other Jonin restrained the Stone Dragon, but Ao Cang broke their assault with powerful vacuum spheres and purple dragon-shaped flames.
  • Gengetsu repelled airborne attackers with the dragon’s stone scales, but one Iwa Ninja with a Petrified Body landed on the dragon and charged at him.

Ch. 171Flew Away

Gengetsu and Ao Cang fought Kitsuchi and the Iwa Ninja, transforming their Stone Dragon into a massive flying dragon with Gengetsu’s Gravity Technique. As they attacked the retreating Iwa forces and prepared to regroup with Pervy Sage, Roshi arrived and launched a counterattack.

  • Gengetsu and Ao Cang broke free of Iwa’s earth techniques, and Ao Cang shifted into a stone giant to escape the sinking ground.
  • Kitsuchi and Routo coordinated attacks that restrained the stone giant while Iwa Ninja began withdrawing from the barrier.
  • Gengetsu used Chidori to break the rock restraints, then applied the Gravity Technique so Ao Cang could transform the giant into a flying Stone Dragon.
  • Gengetsu ordered Ao Cang to attack the scattered Iwa Ninja and then join Pervy Sage and the others; Ao Cang fired Vacuum Bullets at the troops below.
  • Roshi arrived in lava armor, leapt above the Stone Dragon, and hurled lava spheres as Iwa Ninja threw kunai fitted with Exploding Tags.

Ch. 172A Sneak Attack

Uzumaki Gengetsu helped Konoha rout the Iwa Ninja and pursue them to the Land of Rain’s border, while the Third Tsuchikage prepared to intervene. The chapter left Gengetsu waking to news that the Third Tsuchikage had appeared at the front line.

  • Gengetsu transformed his Chakra Cloak into a Purple Dragon, defeated Roshi, and sealed the Four-Tails after ordering Ao Cang to stop attacking the remaining Iwa Ninja.
  • Kitsuchi ordered a retreat and sent a vulture to report Gengetsu’s strength to the Third Tsuchikage.
  • Black Zetsu and White Zetsu discussed how the battle’s losses could prevent Konoha from securing Iwa’s surrender and prepared to find a suitable body.
  • Gengetsu’s attack broke the Iwa Ninja line, and Jugan ordered a retreat while Jiraiya sent Konoha’s forces in pursuit.
  • Gengetsu and Ao Cang crushed Jugan’s rear guard, and Konoha pursued the Iwa Ninja to the border before Gengetsu was told the Third Tsuchikage had appeared at the front line.

Ch. 173Dust Release (Third Update)

Uzumaki Gengetsu arrived at the border standoff with captured Roshi and Han, where Ōnoki challenged him over his use of the same rare art. Gengetsu tried to stop the fighting by warning Ōnoki about a hidden organization and the consequences of weakening the villages, but Ōnoki saw through his attempt to stall and launched Dust Release.

  • Ōnoki confronted Jiraiya and demanded that he bring out Uzumaki Gengetsu, whom he had heard used the same Ninja Art as himself.
  • Gengetsu arrived beside Jiraiya and brought the unconscious Roshi and Han, angering Ōnoki and unsettling the Iwa Ninja.
  • Gengetsu defended keeping the Jinchuriki captive by repeating Ōnoki’s claim that the ninja world had only enemies and comrades.
  • Gengetsu argued that continuing the war would benefit hidden spectators and warned Ōnoki about a mysterious force waiting for the villages to weaken themselves.
  • Ōnoki realized Gengetsu was stalling while his Dragon Vein Energy recovered, then formed hand seals and began the Original World Detachment Technique.

Ch. 174My Chakra Is More Than I Can Use

Gengetsu absorbed Ōnoki’s Dust Release at great cost, then used a vast army of Shadow Clones to force the Third Tsuchikage to consider withdrawing. The chapter left their standoff unresolved as Gengetsu offered to return the two Jinchuriki for payment and warned Ōnoki that someone was targeting the Tailed Beasts.

  • Ōnoki disintegrated Jiraiya’s right arm with Dust Release, but Gengetsu and Ao Cang absorbed the next attack, leaving Gengetsu badly strained.
  • Gengetsu summoned over a thousand Shadow Clones and threatened to massacre the Iwa Ninja if Ōnoki continued fighting.
  • Gengetsu proposed that both sides withdraw twenty li and that neither Kage intervene again unless Konoha’s Kage joined the battle, offering to serve only as a Medical Ninja.
  • Ōnoki agreed to withdraw if Gengetsu returned Roshi and Han, and Gengetsu demanded 100 million Ryo for each Jinchuriki.
  • Gengetsu warned Ōnoki that a mysterious person had targeted the Tailed Beasts and could release or extract them, while preparing for the possibility of further fighting.

Ch. 175The Clone’s Sacrifice

Gengetsu negotiated a temporary ceasefire with Ōnoki, healed Jiraiya’s severed arm, and returned to Shikkotsu Forest to revive Uchiha Shinsui. The revival succeeded, but Gengetsu collapsed from exhaustion, so his Clones began an experiment to restore his vitality and strengthen his body.

  • Gengetsu forced Ōnoki to agree to deliver the Jinchuriki transaction money, and the Iwa Ninja withdrew.
  • Gengetsu regenerated Jiraiya’s arm and warned that Ōnoki might still attack after the transaction.
  • Gengetsu returned to Shikkotsu Forest, where Sage One and the other Clones warned him that his vitality had weakened after facing Dust Release.
  • Gengetsu used the Reanimation Jutsu to awaken Uchiha Shinsui, with Gengetsu Sun helping him maintain the Chakra.
  • Gengetsu fainted from the strain, and Sage One and the Clones began an experiment to replenish his vitality and strengthen his foundation.

Ch. 176The Kaleidoscope of True Water

Uchiha Shinsui awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan while Gengetsu remained unconscious after battling the Iwa Ninja and the Third Tsuchikage. At Shikkotsu Forest, Gengetsu’s clones sacrificed their vitality and Sage-transformed cells to restore him, while Sage One entrusted his eyes to Gengetsu Sun before fading away.

  • Uchiha Shinsui woke in the Shikkotsu Forest laboratory and learned that only one day had passed and the war was still ongoing.
  • Gengetsu Sun told Uchiha Shinsui that Gengetsu had driven the Iwa Ninja from the Land of Rain but had collapsed after fighting the Third Tsuchikage and using One's Own Life Reincarnation.
  • Gengetsu Sun noticed that Uchiha Shinsui had awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, and Shinsui attributed its unusual, gentle Chakra to the power of love.
  • Uchiha Shinsui learned that Gengetsu’s clones were transferring their vitality and Sage-transformed cells to repair damage caused by Dust Release.
  • Sage One explained the Sage-transformed energy within Gengetsu’s cells and asked Gengetsu Sun to preserve his eyes and Heavenly Eye for possible fusion into Gengetsu.
  • Sage One’s consciousness dissipated after he remarked that he would become a legend as the Moon Sage.

Ch. 177No Flawless Technique (Third Update)

Gengetsu learned that Uchiha Shinsui had awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan and discussed ways to protect and possibly evolve it. Shinsui revealed his left eye’s sealing genjutsu, and Gengetsu demonstrated that he could break it with Adamantine Chains.

  • Gengetsu woke up, discovered Shinsui had awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan, and warned him about its risks and the danger of overusing it.
  • Gengetsu suggested that mastering Yang Release might help Shinsui evolve his Mangekyō, and Shinsui resolved to try after the war.
  • Shinsui revealed that his left eye could trap an enemy’s spiritual will in a hidden illusory space without requiring eye contact.
  • Gengetsu reasoned that the illusion existed inside its victim and used Adamantine Chains to twist and shatter the space.
  • Shinsui was shocked that Gengetsu had broken his seal with ninjutsu while trapped inside the genjutsu.

Ch. 178Kannabi Bridge

Gengetsu explained his theory of genjutsu to Uchiha Shinsui and encouraged him to pursue ultimate genjutsu. Back at Konoha’s camp, Gengetsu learned that Minato would reinforce the Land of Grass battlefield and destroy Kannabi Bridge.

  • Gengetsu explained how spiritual will could create genjutsu without Chakra, and Uchiha Shinsui realized Gengetsu had tricked him into releasing the Myriad Seal Tsukuyomi.
  • Gengetsu outlined levels of genjutsu, including ultimate techniques such as Izanagi and Kotoamatsukami, and urged Uchiha Shinsui to pursue that level without relying on the Sharingan.
  • Gengetsu and Uchiha Shinsui returned to Konoha’s camp, where Jiraiya told Gengetsu that Nagato had reportedly been killed by Hanzo.
  • Jiraiya told Gengetsu that Minato had been assigned to reinforce the Land of Grass battlefield and destroy Kannabi Bridge, leaving Gengetsu shaken.

Ch. 179A Sudden Turn of Events

Gengetsu recovered from his injuries and continued developing his Sage powers while Black Zetsu redirected attention toward Nagato. After the exchange of the two Jinchuriki, the Third Raikage invaded the Land of Earth, and Gengetsu prepared to send a clone toward the Land of Grass as Konoha moved to exploit the conflict.

  • Gengetsu used Sage Chakra to continue transforming his pineal gland and realized his Wood Release power was approaching its growth limit.
  • Black Zetsu learned that Gengetsu had recovered and that Uchiha Shinsui was alive, then decided to prioritize the next phase of the plan after Nagato nearly died.
  • Gengetsu and Jiraiya exchanged the two unharmed Jinchuriki with Ōnoki and the Iwa Ninja, but Ōnoki withdrew without starting a battle.
  • After three days, Gengetsu and Jiraiya learned that the Third Raikage had led forces into the Land of Earth, and Jiraiya ordered Konoha's forces toward the Land of Grass.
  • Gengetsu told Jiraiya he would send a clone to the Land of Grass while keeping his main body at the camp.

Ch. 180The Missing Corpse

Gengetsu searched for Obito’s body and found only dried blood, leading him to suspect Obito had survived and been taken by Zetsu. He sent Rin away with a Shadow Clone and entered an underground passage to pursue the trace he had sensed.

  • Danzo argued with Hiruzen Sarutobi over ending the campaign against Iwagakure, but Hiruzen refused to change his decision.
  • Gengetsu met Minato and learned that Obito had supposedly died while saving Kakashi, then offered to search for Obito’s body and try the Reanimation Jutsu.
  • Gengetsu and Rin found only dried blood beneath the rubble at the place where Obito had disappeared.
  • Gengetsu sensed a trace of Obito beneath them and sent a Shadow Clone to take Rin to Minato and Kakashi.
  • Gengetsu sank into the earth and entered an underground passage to follow the trace.

Ch. 181Izanagi

Gengetsu pursued Madara through an underground tunnel and fought two White Zetsu controlling Uchiha Clan members. He outsmarted their Izanagi and froze them, then prepared to continue toward Madara’s hideout.

  • Gengetsu sensed two Uchiha opponents approaching and demanded that the White Zetsu take him to Madara.
  • The White Zetsu attacked with fire, shuriken, and vines, but Gengetsu used Water and Ice Release to bind them.
  • The White Zetsu escaped the ice with Izanagi and trapped Gengetsu in vines while draining his Dragon Vein Chakra.
  • Gengetsu waited for their Izanagi to end, then used his technique to appear beside one White Zetsu and strike it with Chidori.
  • The White Zetsu tried to burrow underground, but Gengetsu froze them before they could escape.
