"Clang~ Clang~"
In the evening, in the backyard of Pedrol Manor, Lynn held a wooden sword, struggling to block the girl's continuous fierce attacks.
Despite being mentally prepared, Evina's ruthlessness still exceeded Lynn's expectations. She spared no effort in her moves, aiming for vital points as if it were a fight to the death rather than practice.
After the twenty-first move, the brown-haired girl once again swung horizontally, knocking the long sword from Lynn's hand to the ground.
Having fought several rounds and sparred for nearly an hour, both Lynn and Evina were at their limits. Their arms and shoulders, hidden beneath their clothes, were covered in bruises from the slashes, and their stamina was almost completely depleted.
Lynn, not skilled in close combat, ultimately failed to break Lott's record. Baron Pedrol, observing from the sidelines, wasn't too concerned. He could see that Evina's swordsmanship had improved slightly, so her loss was normal.
What pleased him even more was that Lynn had finally taken his words to heart. He no longer held back during combat as he had before, fighting with more ferocity.
"Stop, that's enough for today," Baron Pedrol waved his hand, calling an end to the fight. A hint of a smile finally appeared on his gloomy face.
"Very good, my son, you've finally started to understand. If you continue to practice like this and improve, you have a seventy percent chance of passing the assessment."
This year, the Knight Assessment had two extra spots, so the standards would undoubtedly be lowered. Coupled with the funds he had often donated to the Church priests, he might be able to pull some strings then.
Thinking of this, Baron Pedrol's mood improved. He then turned to Evina and said, "Evina, your swordsmanship is excellent, but you can pause your practice for now and spend your time elsewhere."
"While the Duke Nordland's son is indeed obsessed with swordsmanship, being too strong might easily displease him..."
Baron Pedrol earnestly instructed Evina on how to use their shared interest to gain the Duke's son's attention and protect his fragile ego.
He was quite satisfied with his daughter. Not only was she beautiful, but she also possessed excellent swordsmanship talent. If she could use this as an opportunity to marry Duke Nordland's eldest son, the family would have a chance to revive under his leadership.
Listening to Baron Pedrol's words, Evina gritted her teeth, her delicate face filled with unwillingness and resentment.
However, Baron Pedrol didn't notice the girl's expression. After his instructions, he didn't linger.
Due to the disturbances caused by those Demon's Followers, many important figures who were usually unseen had appeared in Harbor Town. This was an excellent opportunity to show his face!
After the Baron left, Lynn cast a sympathetic glance at the brown-haired girl before him.
To possess such strong swordsmanship at the age of sixteen, Evina had undoubtedly worked hard, likely hoping to gain her father's approval and change her fate.
Unfortunately, Baron Pedrol had always treated his daughter as nothing more than a tool to curry favor with the powerful.
Perhaps Evina's situation would improve after he left.
Lynn pondered for a moment, put away his wooden sword, and carefully chose his words, preparing to offer some comfort and fulfill his responsibility as an older brother.
He remembered that in the diary, Lott had cared a great deal about his sister.
However, before Lynn could speak, Evina looked up and said coldly, "Are you finally going to make a move on me? My brother?"
When the full moon's radiance once again illuminated the night sky, a bewildered Lynn was led back to his room by a servant. He had spent the entire journey trying to understand the meaning behind the girl's final words.
He hadn't expected the relationships within a small barony to be so complicated.
"Forget it, this isn't my problem." Lynn shook his head helplessly. Fortunately, he was only temporarily borrowing Lott's identity and wasn't a family counselor, or he would have a real headache.
In comparison, he was more concerned about the Demon's Follower the Church had captured on their return journey, as mentioned by Baron Pedrol.
Lynn couldn't be sure if the person was Joanne or White Dove, or if both had been captured by the Church.
But one thing was certain: Antioch, who had suffered a great loss at his hands, had made thorough preparations. A secret garrison of three thousand soldiers was stationed in and around Harbor Town, likely targeting him.
He estimated that in a few days, the Church would spread the news of the public execution of the Demon's Follower after Moon Day, luring him to rescue them.
Lynn shivered at the thought of rushing into the Church's trap without any preparation.
If nothing else, a volley of a thousand crossbowmen would turn him into a hedgehog instantly.
Raiding the prison in advance seemed like a good idea, as he could use Transformation Magic and disguise techniques to infiltrate.
As long as he could confirm who had been captured and which cell they were in, Lynn was confident he could rescue them...
Then, he would need to figure out how to escape Harbor Town.
The more Lynn thought about it, the more his head ached. He wasn't the real Carl and had no emotional attachment to Joanne and the others. However, having gone through life and death together, he intended to try and save them if possible.
"071, is there anything that can help me fight three thousand elite soldiers?" Lynn asked in his mind.
The next moment, a long list immediately appeared before his eyes.
[Dongfeng 180 Missile, Plasma Railgun, Antimatter Bomb, High-Energy Ray, Galactic Level Long-Distance Warship...]
"I only have a few days, give me something more realistic!" Lynn was speechless. If he could produce these things, he would have overthrown the Pope long ago and transformed this dark, foreign world into a bright medieval era.
Under this demand, the list, dozens of meters long, quickly shrunk to a few lines. Lynn was soon captivated by an image on the list, immediately recalling something he had seen in the Harbor Town shop. He had completely forgotten about it.
After a moment of thought, Lynn's plan was set. However, he couldn't possibly cover everything alone; it would be best to find some reliable allies.
Lame Laud...
The familiar name surfaced in Lynn's mind again. He was the easiest person to win over in Harbor Town. The man was deeply involved with the Wizard, making betrayal highly unlikely.
The remaining problem was how to find this hidden old fox!
