Ch. 543All Things Change, Only the Speed of Light Remains Constant!
Harov learned that a delayed-choice double-slit experiment had driven nine Great Wizards mad after they concluded microscopic particles could anticipate observation. At Lynn’s estate, Lynn began explaining relativity to a gathering of skeptical wizards, who started to connect his account of wave propagation to the constant speed of light.
- Vittorio told Harov that nine Great Wizards had gone mad during Jeffrey’s delayed-choice experiment, and said he had erased their memories and arranged treatment.
- Jeffrey, Arad, and Sanchez argued before Lynn’s estate that photons and electrons could predict the future and read minds, while Sterger challenged the idea of Quantum Ghosts and relativity.
- Lynn welcomed Sterger and the other wizards inside and explained inertial reference frames with the example of a silver coin moving at different speeds relative to the ground and the sun.
- Sterger asked why light’s speed did not change between reference frames, and Lynn explained that mechanical waves travel at speeds determined by their medium.
- Jeffrey realized that light’s wave properties meant measuring its speed involved measuring its propagation through a medium, and Lynn confirmed he had grasped part of the explanation.
