As Zhao Chen stepped out of the tent and heard Wu Yingying's words, he nearly stumbled and fell flat on his face.
Why did he feel that she did not particularly care about the Crimson Token, but cared far more about that Little Thief?
And that she very much wanted to strip him naked and throw him into the river to feed the fish.
Zhao Chen rubbed the tip of his nose, feeling slightly guilty.
It seemed that the proud Little Girl placed an extraordinary value on her chastity.
When he walked toward the gates of Guardian Land, Song Yuqing became extremely flustered.
"Y-you..."
Song Yuqing wanted to warn Zhao Chen not to talk nonsense.
But when she saw Zhao Chen's calm, profound eyes, she immediately lost her nerve.
He seemed so formidable.
He had actually seen through her disguise as a man at a glance.
Song Yuqing looked at her utterly unremarkable chest and frowned slightly.
"Do you want some Spirit Beast essence?"
Zhao Chen looked at her with a smile and took out a Crimson Token from his Storage Bag. There was still some Low-Level Spirit Beast essence inside that he had not absorbed.
It was mainly because it was too useless—tasteless to keep, yet a pity to discard.
"This..."
Song Yuqing could not figure out what Zhao Chen was trying to do. To maintain her persona, she said softly, "Fine, I'll tell you. My name really isn't Qin Yusong. I'm Song Yuqing. As long as you don't tell anyone, I won't take your Spirit Beast essence, and you can go straight in."
Zhao Chen blinked. This was exactly what he had expected.
"Fine. I definitely won't tell anyone."
He put away the Crimson Token and walked straight into Guardian Land.
This left Song Yuqing somewhat bewildered.
It felt like he had agreed far too readily. Something was off.
"Gasp!"
Song Yuqing's eyes widened. She hurriedly looked into Guardian Land, only to find that Zhao Chen was already nowhere to be seen. Her thoughts immediately solidified.
"Damn it, I got played again!"
She stomped her feet repeatedly, gritting her teeth in anger.
Zhao Chen agreeing not to tell anyone did not mean Wu Yingying would not tell anyone.
Wu Yingying did not have a Crimson Token and had no need to enter Guardian Land, so Song Yuqing had no way to hold her over a barrel.
At that thought, Song Yuqing's expression turned extremely ugly.
Guardian Land.
Zhao Chen looked around and found the place empty, with hardly anyone in sight.
After walking for some time, he still did not see anywhere that could forge weapons.
When he arrived before the stone stele in the plaza, Zhao Chen took out his Crimson Token to register.
After completing a simple registration in the stone stele, he continued onward.
He walked all the way to a building with red walls, golden tiles, and jade pillars. This was the City Lord's Mansion.
To accept missions, one had to go inside the City Lord's Mansion.
Zhao Chen strolled through the City Lord's Mansion and arrived at its Mission Hall.
Many wooden plaques hung on the walls of the Mission Hall.
Among them, white plaques represented the simplest First-Level Missions.
Yellow plaques represented Second-Level Missions, green plaques represented Third-Level Missions, blue plaques represented the relatively rare Fourth-Level Missions, and red plaques represented the highest-level Fifth-Level Missions.
To accept a mission, one simply had to use a Crimson Token to record information from the mission plaque.
Completing the mission within the allotted time would earn points.
Failing to complete it would result in a heavy deduction of points.
The missions currently on the wall consisted only of First-Level Missions represented by white plaques, as well as blue Fourth-Level and red Fifth-Level Missions.
Zhao Chen looked at the white First-Level Missions. They involved hunting First-Level Spirit Beasts such as Mountain Bears.
Then he glanced at the blue Fourth-Level Mission.
"Slay a Sixth-Level Spirit Beast, obtain its essence, and receive one thousand points!?"
Zhao Chen raised a brow. A blue Fourth-Level Mission already involved a Sixth-Level Spirit Beast?
"Stop looking. As Second-Level Spirit Bodies, we can only accept Second-Level Missions. The stronger ones can accept Third-Level Missions."
Someone entered, saw Zhao Chen standing there, and immediately reminded him:
"There is a guy named Fang Zhong who accepts every refreshed Second-Level and Third-Level Mission each day. Unless you defeat him, you won't have any chance at all!"
Zhao Chen's heart stirred. He looked at the man and asked:
"Has Fang Zhong completed all the missions he accepted?"
The man sighed and said with feeling:
"He really does have the strength to complete every mission he accepts. The points from completing those missions are enough for him to remain in Guardian Land indefinitely."
"I heard he has recently been pushing for a Third-Level Spirit Body. I think he has probably already achieved it. Otherwise, there is no way he could complete both the Second-Level and Third-Level Missions."
Zhao Chen fell into thought before asking, "Do you know where Fang Zhong is?"
Judging from the mission plaques returned to the wall, Fang Zhong should not have come back yet.
Once a mission was completed, its wooden plaque had to be hung back up.
When the information fed back by the plaque entered the Crimson Token, it meant the points had been credited.
"Quick, let's get out! Fang Zhong is here!"
The man had been about to say he did not know, but then spotted the familiar cold-faced youth in Blue Clothes outside the Mission Hall. Startled, he grabbed Zhao Chen and pulled him out.
Outside the Mission Hall, Zhao Chen examined the cold-faced youth in Blue Clothes. This was Fang Zhong, the one who had accepted every Second-Level and Third-Level Mission.
Sure enough, just as the feedback from his Crimson Token had indicated, Fang Zhong rehung every mission plaque he had accepted.
Then, each mission plaque shot out a red line that entered his Crimson Token.
The points had been credited!
The Mission Hall's missions refreshed at midnight.
After Fang Zhong left, Zhao Chen asked around and, after basically confirming the details, decided to remain in Guardian Land until midnight the next day.
Others feared Fang Zhong and did not dare accept Second-Level or Third-Level Missions.
But Zhao Chen had no such concerns.
The next day, midnight.
Zhao Chen had arrived early at the Mission Hall to wait.
It could not be helped. Fang Zhong always came to accept missions at a fixed time.
To avoid a direct conflict with him while still accepting missions, Zhao Chen had to stake out the place.
Several dozen wooden plaques had been rehung on the wall.
The bottom row consisted of white plaques, representing First-Level Missions.
The row above it held yellow plaques, representing Second-Level Missions. There were ten plaques in total.
"Kill four Third-Level Spirit Beasts and bring back their essence for forty points. In other words, each Third-Level Spirit Beast is worth ten points."
Zhao Chen raised a brow. These points seemed rather difficult to earn.
"Pick one Dragon Saliva Herb for forty points."
Even Second-Level Missions were quite difficult.
For most people with Second-Level Spirit Bodies, it would take a long time before they could possibly complete one.
Yet Fang Zhong could easily complete Second-Level Missions and even finish all the Third-Level Missions. Impressive.
Zhao Chen shifted his gaze to the Third-Level Missions represented by green plaques. There were six plaques in total.
"Slay five Fourth-Level Spirit Beasts, or slay one Fifth-Level Spirit Beast, and bring back their essence for one hundred points!"
He smiled and removed every plaque corresponding to the Second-Level and Third-Level Missions.
He also directly took down the Fourth-Level Mission represented by the blue plaque.
"Not bad. It even lists the areas where the Spirit Beasts can be found, so I won't have to search for them!"
The corners of Zhao Chen's lips curved up as he murmured:
"All the missions are mine!"
