Charles ultimately chose not to abandon his students, deciding to face it together with them.
Magneto shrugged indifferently and boarded the helicopter with Mystique. Charles had been rescued anyway, so the rest was no longer their concern.
Watching the helicopter fly into the sky, the others could only change direction and race toward the plane.

Then a sudden howl reached their ears. The plane came flying in from the distance, swaying from side to side as it made an emergency landing on the snow, throwing up a vast spray of snowflakes.
After a brief moment of stunned silence, no reminder was needed. Everyone took off at a mad dash toward the lowered boarding stairs.
Storm took control of the plane from the trembling Rogue. Scott placed the professor in a seat, then hurriedly sat in the co-pilot's seat to help.
"Close call, close call," Aaron said with immense relief. He then sat before Charles. "After we get back, Jean will resign from her teaching position at Mutant Academy and settle down as Mrs. Gaius."
