Asgard.
Jane lay on a rectangular stone platform, surrounded by several top female healers.
As the healers manipulated the magical instruments floating in midair, a humanoid projection made of pale red powder slowly appeared above her. Within the pale red image, a strange mass of dark red matter drifted about erratically.
"This isn't a substance from Earth. What is it?" Thor looked at Jane worriedly and quietly asked one of the healers.
"We don't know yet, but the energy surging through her body is too great. She can't withstand it."
Jane did not hear their conversation. She stared curiously at the projection above her. "That's a Quantum Field Generator, right?"
"This is a Soul Smelter," the healer said.
"Can a Soul Smelter transfer molecular energy?"
The healer paused, looking at her in surprise before giving an affirmative answer. "Yes."
"It's a Quantum Field Generator," Jane said with a small smile, turning her head toward Thor.
Thor forced a smile, not knowing what to say.
"Are my words nothing but water off a duck's back to you?" Odin walked in. With a wave of one hand, the Soul Smelter shut down automatically, and the healers all bowed before withdrawing.
"She's sick," Thor said.
"She is mortal. They all fall ill."
"I brought her here because we can save her."
"She does not belong in Asgard, just as goat meat has no place at a banquet."
The words were not especially hurtful, but they were incredibly insulting. Jane could not stand it any longer. "Did he just say... who do you think you are?"
"I am Odin, King of Asgard and protector of the Nine Realms."
Jane: ...
That was awkward.
"I'm—"
"I know very well who you are, Jane Foster," Odin said expressionlessly.
"You mentioned me to your father?"
