Coulson and Nick Fury stared at the pyramid collapsing with a thunderous crash on the screen, both momentarily taken aback.
"No wonder that guy sold them for so much. That power was worth the price."
"Sir, that doesn't seem to be the point," Coulson reminded him. "En Sabah Nur..."
"I know what you mean, Agent Coulson.
But Steve and the others can't confirm whether Apocalypse is dead yet." Nick Fury put on a relaxed smile. "Besides, you saw the Phoenix appear just now. Let's call it the Phoenix for now!"
Coulson nodded in realization. The prophecy on the Stone Tablet indicated that Apocalypse's defeat was closely connected to the Phoenix, and what had just happened seemed to offer a reasonable explanation for it.
"So... the Captain and the others won?"
"I didn't say that. But just in case, have them take Charles somewhere safe first."
"Yes, sir."
Aaron looked at the image in the mirror, took a deep breath, and rose to his feet. "That's about enough. Fawkes, take me to Apocalypse."
The Phoenix immediately spread his wings and grabbed Aaron by the shoulder.
A flash of crimson fire vanished in an instant, and both man and Phoenix disappeared from where they stood.
The next moment, they arrived deep within the pyramid, inside a grand hall that was collapsing.
The entrance and exit of the hall had both been sealed by falling rocks. Apocalypse lay quietly in a deep pit, most of his armor shattered and large portions of his body covered in burns.
He was in poor condition, but not terribly so.
His self-healing ability was rapidly repairing his body, and his gaze remained clear. He had not lost consciousness.
"Who are you?" Apocalypse noticed Aaron and asked directly, without even intending to sit up.
