Ch. 241Strange Ability, Absolute Freedom

Roger awakened the Nika Fruit and fought Gigue with a freedom that let him ignore darkness and reshape his body. After Roger transformed into a giant and attacked, Muramasa silently returned to the back of Gigue’s hand, leaving Gigue facing the descending fist.

  • Saturn told the Five Elders they could not reach Saint Gigue in time and said they had to hope he defeated Roger.
  • Gigue pulled Roger close with Banshō Ten'in and twisted his neck, but Roger laughed and struck Gigue with a punch that stretched his body without injuring him.
  • Roger used his awakened power to stretch Ace, bind Gigue, and make the surrounding space too rubbery for Gigue to open a gap with Kamui Shifting.
  • Gigue freed himself with Shinra Tensei, trapped Roger in darkness, and split the sphere, but Roger escaped and formed a laughing face in the clouds.
  • Gigue blasted apart Roger’s cloud face with Conqueror’s Haki, only for Roger to reveal a giant form and declare that darkness was nothing special.
  • Roger’s mountain-sized fist came down toward Gigue as Muramasa silently returned to the back of Gigue’s hand.

Ch. 242Did Gigue Lose?

Roger defeated Gigue in their aerial battle, but Gigue fell through the ice into the sea and could not be found. Roger, weakened and nearing the end of his Nika Form, attacked the Marines, but Akainu, Kizaru, Aokiji, Aramaki, Kuma, and Lucia brought him down.

  • Gigue unleashed his Blood Qi Power and battled Roger, but Roger ultimately struck him through the ice into the sea.
  • The Marines searched the water for Gigue but returned without finding him, while Roger landed and the pirates believed he had won.
  • Roger's Nika Form shrank, and he resolved to use his remaining time to weaken the Marines.
  • Akainu charged Roger, who seized him in one hand, and Kizaru attacked before Roger caught him in his other hand.
  • Aokiji and Aramaki restrained Roger's legs, then Kuma and Lucia struck him down, allowing Akainu and Kizaru to escape his grasp.

Ch. 243The Vanished Gigue

Roger regained control of Ace and fought to protect Rayleigh, Shanks, and Buggy while the Marines continued their assault. As Roger prepared a powerful attack, the ice hole where Gigue had vanished filled with churning black water and began consuming the surrounding ice.

  • Rayleigh gave Roger Ace, and Roger used the blade to drive back the Marines while ordering Rayleigh to rescue Shanks and Buggy.
  • Roger carved a trench in the ice, and Aokiji froze the seawater so the Marine fighters could keep their footing.
  • Lucia charged Roger in grief over Gigue, while Kuma declared that he fought only for Gigue and attacked Roger's Haki barrier.
  • Roger gathered his Conqueror's Haki into Ace and prepared to set the world back on course.
  • The ice hole where Gigue disappeared turned black, expanded as the surrounding ice vanished, and hurled the Marine searchers into the air.

Ch. 244Darkness Awakens!

Gigue awakened his Dark-Dark Fruit and used King's Command: Darkness Pluton to attack Roger, leaving him near death. Roger activated the Drums of Liberation, but his Nika power seemed to be burning away his life as he faced Gigue.

  • Gigue rose from the black sea, revealed his awakened Darkness Power, and thanked Roger for the Nika aura in his blood that had helped trigger his awakening.
  • Gigue thrust Muramasa into the sea and unleashed King's Command: Darkness Pluton, summoning a massive black dragon that swallowed Roger.
  • Roger fought free of the dragon but was left bloody, weakened, and rapidly aged; his Divine Departure then passed through Gigue without hitting him.
  • Roger pounded his chest until the Drums of Liberation sounded, but his body shrank and withered further as Gigue realized Roger's Nika power was consuming his life.
  • Roger looked at Gigue and hoarsely addressed him as “Black Dragon...”

Ch. 245Great Dark Heaven

Gigue defeated Roger with Great Dark Heaven, but his exhaustion left him unable to fight as the Marines routed the remaining pirates. He then spotted Rayleigh returning with Shanks and Buggy, and Akainu, Kizaru, and Aokiji moved to stop their escape.

  • Gigue unleashed Great Dark Heaven, shattering the darkness and leaving Roger with only his head and torso as spatial turbulence pulverized his limbs.
  • Gigue collapsed from exhaustion, but Kuma repelled his pain and fatigue while the pirates fled and the Marines pursued them.
  • Gigue ordered Akainu and the others to eliminate the remaining pirates, and they quickly defeated the Roger Pirates, with Kizaru cutting off Spencer's head.
  • Gigue noticed Rayleigh had returned with Shanks and Buggy while Roger was still alive, and Rayleigh tried to flee with them.
  • Akainu and Kizaru charged after Rayleigh, while Aokiji sent freezing air to block their escape, forcing Gigue to abandon thoughts of sleep.

Ch. 246Roger's Death

Roger died after broadcasting that he had left the One Piece and everything he owned for anyone who dared to set out to sea. As the world reacted to his death, the Five Elders celebrated Gigue's role but ordered a secret search for the reborn Nika Fruit, while Rayleigh fled with Shanks and Buggy.

  • Roger asked Shanks to get a News Coo's visual Den Den Mushi, then used it to announce that he had left the One Piece and all his possessions at sea.
  • Roger died, and people around the world celebrated or stirred at the prospect of finding his treasure.
  • In East Blue, Monkey D. Dragon comforted the pregnant Portgas D. Rouge, who vowed to give birth to Roger's child.
  • Whitebeard poured liquor over the Moby Dick's deck and wondered whether Roger's death was the mission Roger had mentioned.
  • The Five Elders praised Saint Gigue, recognized that the Nika Fruit would be reborn, and assigned CP9 to search for it secretly.
  • Rayleigh escaped with Shanks and Buggy as Akainu attacked him with Dark Hound.

Ch. 247War's End

Gigue ended the war by defeating Roger, then fell into a deep sleep after giving Akainu instructions about Foosha Village and Zephyr. The Marines returned victorious, while Rayleigh, Shanks, and Buggy washed ashore on a small island.

  • Rayleigh lost his left arm to Akainu’s magma attack but escaped into the sea with Shanks and Buggy.
  • Gigue called Akainu over, checked that she was unharmed, and instructed her to guard Foosha Village, kill Luffy or the eel-like Sea King, and accompany Zephyr on a training voyage when he turned sixty-five.
  • Gigue fell asleep, and Akainu shared his instructions with Kizaru, Aokiji, and Aramaki, who agreed to help carry them out.
  • The Marines cleared the battlefield and returned to Marineford, where Kong learned that the World Government had taken Gigue away to rest before the Five Elders rewarded him.
  • Rayleigh, Shanks, and Buggy washed ashore on a small Grand Line island, and Shanks woke Rayleigh, who realized they had been saved.

Ch. 248Target: King of the Near Sea

Rayleigh and Shanks recovered on an island after the Roger Pirates’ defeat, then planned to head to the Sabaody Archipelago. Meanwhile, Aokiji and Aramaki searched near Foosha Village for the King of the Near Sea, and Aramaki proposed using Higuma as bait.

  • Rayleigh told Shanks to honor Roger and their fallen companions, then asked him to look after the straw hat and wake Buggy.
  • Rayleigh decided the group would rest for a few days before traveling to the Sabaody Archipelago to meet his friend.
  • Fishermen in Foosha Village speculated about the Marine warship searching nearby and worried that it had come to capture Dragon.
  • Aokiji lamented that he had found no sign of the Sea King after nearly a week of searching.
  • Aramaki returned from the village with Higuma and told Aokiji that the King of the Near Sea attacked fishing boats and ate people.
  • Aramaki proposed using Higuma, who had bragged about his two-and-a-half-million-Berry bounty, as bait.

Ch. 249Hunting Time

Aramaki and Aokiji used Sig as bait to hunt a Sea King near Foosha Village, then returned to Marineford after killing one. In Mary Geoise, Spandine arrived with a covered cage while Vegapunk reported that the sleeping Gigue remained physically normal but could not be woken by conventional means.

  • Aramaki bound Sig and used him as bait while he and Aokiji watched from above and waited for a Sea King.
  • Aokiji and Aramaki froze Sig and the King of the Near Sea, then shattered them with a treant strike.
  • Aokiji and Aramaki stayed near Foosha Village for two more days before returning to Marineford.
  • Spandine brought a black-covered iron cage to the Figarland Family grounds and was admitted to Garling's Royal Chamber.
  • Vegapunk told Garling that Gigue's readings were normal but he could not predict when Gigue would wake, and that ordinary attempts to rouse him had failed.

Ch. 250Master and Servant

Garling questioned Spandine about the sleeping Boa Hancock, whom Spandine had captured as a gift for Gigue, and learned of Spandine’s steadfast loyalty to his master. Garling gave Spandine one of two weapons Gigue had prepared for him and his son; when it transformed into a venomous serpent, Spandine wept and murmured Gigue’s name.

  • Spandine brought Garling a sleeping eight-year-old Boa Hancock, whom he had taken from the Kuja Pirates as a gift for Gigue.
  • Garling asked whether Gigue had requested Hancock, and Spandine admitted he had chosen the gift himself to please his master.
  • Spandine reflected on Gigue’s battle with Roger, his continued sleep, and the loyalty he and his son Spandam felt toward him.
  • Garling told Spandine that Gigue had prepared two special blades for Spandine and Spandam, then had a guard bring them in.
  • Spandine chose the orange-hilted blade, which transformed into a venomous serpent when he swung it, and he tearfully murmured Gigue’s name.

Ch. 251Hancock

Garling gave Spandine two Devil Fruit blades and sent Hancock to Gigue’s Royal Chamber to train under Lucia. Hancock attacked Spandine and tried to escape, but Lucia stopped her and told her to behave, while Hancock cried that she wanted to go home.

  • Garling explained that Spandine’s blades had become Viper and Forest Python, then sent Hancock to Gigue’s place to train with Lucia and the girls.
  • Spandine brought Hancock in her cage to the Royal Chamber, where Monet, Sugar, and Robin were reading while Lucia cared for the sleeping Gigue.
  • Lucia learned that Hancock was an eight-year-old Kuja pirate whom Spandine had sedated, and she ordered him to wake her.
  • Hancock kicked Spandine in the groin and ran for the entrance, but Lucia caught her ankle and threw her to the floor.
  • Lucia warned Hancock to restrain herself if she wanted to stay, and Hancock sobbed that she wanted to go home.

Ch. 252Gigue Asleep

Lucia brought Hancock, Sugar, Robin, Monet, and Spandine to see Gigue, who remained asleep after his battle with Roger. Hancock learned that Gigue was the Marine Admiral Black Dragon who had slain the Pirate King, and she began to understand his reputation as the strongest man in the world.

  • Lucia told Hancock that her home was wherever Gigue was and took her, Sugar, Robin, and Monet to Gigue’s bedroom.
  • Hancock saw Gigue asleep, and Lucia explained that he had exhausted himself fighting Roger.
  • Sugar praised Gigue for defeating Roger, stunning Hancock, who had not seen news of the battle on isolated Amazon Lily.
  • Spandine declared that Gigue was the only one worthy of being called king, then panicked and apologized for speaking treasonously.
  • Lucia reassured Spandine that he had said nothing wrong, while Hancock recognized Gigue as Black Dragon, the Marine Admiral who killed Roger.

Ch. 253Otohime and Shirahoshi

Otohime brought six-year-old Shirahoshi to Mary Geoise to meet Garling, who tested the child he believed to be the Ancient Weapon Poseidon. He sent them to Gigue’s Royal Chamber and agreed to honor Gigue’s promise to Otohime.

  • The World Government promoted Gigue’s legend while the Sea Emperors Whitebeard, Linlin, and Kaido rose to prominence after Roger’s death.
  • Otohime brought Shirahoshi to the Figarland Clan Land, where she told her daughter that Fish-Man Island’s fate rested on her.
  • Garling frightened Shirahoshi with his presence and challenged Otohime to prove that Shirahoshi was her biological daughter.
  • Garling pressured Otohime until she fell to her knees and clutched Shirahoshi protectively.
  • Garling ordered attendants to take Otohime and Shirahoshi to Gigue’s Royal Chamber and promised to arrange what Gigue had promised Otohime.

Ch. 254Phenomenon

Otohime brought Shirahoshi to Gigue’s Royal Chamber, where Lucia allowed them only a few minutes together before sending Otohime away. Gigue remained asleep despite the care of Lucia, Ginny, and the others, but when Lucia’s tears fell on him, his blood crystal glowed and he faintly spoke.

  • Garling released Otohime from his pressure and had the Golden Armor Guard take her and Shirahoshi to Gigue’s Royal Chamber.
  • Lucia told Otohime to leave Shirahoshi and allowed her five minutes to speak with her daughter, while denying her a chance to see Gigue.
  • Ginny emerged and joined Lucia, Monet, Sugar, Robin, and Hancock in caring for the still-sleeping Gigue, whose body was partly covered in blood crystal.
  • Ginny broke down and clung to Gigue, and Lucia tearfully told him that she missed him.
  • Gigue’s blood crystal shone brightly, and he faintly said, “Wait for me...”

Ch. 255Zephyr Sets Sail

Lucia welcomed Shirahoshi into Gigue’s household after Gigue briefly spoke, giving his loved ones hope that he might recover. In 1513, Zephyr took Kizaru and Akainu to sea with Marine cadets, while the three discussed promising recruits and Gigue’s possible return.

  • Gigue spoke briefly, and Lucia and Ginny rushed to him, though the blood crystal covering his body continued to spread.
  • Lucia invited Shirahoshi to meet Gigue, and Shirahoshi asked to call her Sister Lucia.
  • Kizaru and Akainu asked Zephyr to take them along on a training voyage with the cadets.
  • Zephyr named Ain, Binz, and Schuz as promising cadets, and explained that Ain hoped to become Gigue’s subordinate.
  • Kizaru told Zephyr that Vegapunk expected Gigue to wake soon, and Zephyr discussed the expected transfer of Fleet Admiral Kong and Sengoku’s succession.
  • Zephyr led Kizaru and Akainu to the assembled cadets and announced that they would be joining the voyage.

Ch. 256Pull the Ship Over! (Bakkin Edition)

Zephyr's trainees listened as he recounted Gigue's exploits, until Weevil and Miss Bakkin confronted the Marine warship. Kizaru and Akainu attacked the fleeing pair, and the chapter ended as magma and light descended on their boat.

  • Ain asked Zephyr to tell the trainees about Gigue's first voyage with him, and Zephyr recounted how Gigue and the others had helped Garp fight Whitebeard.
  • Kizaru complained that the trip was uneventful, while Akainu insisted they follow Gigue's arrangements until the warship returned to Marineford.
  • Weevil and Miss Bakkin spotted Zephyr's ship, and Bakkin urged Weevil to attack Zephyr to build his reputation as Whitebeard Jr.
  • Weevil challenged Zephyr, but Kizaru and Akainu appeared, and the trainees gathered to watch.
  • Bakkin realized the danger and ordered Weevil to flee, but Kizaru's Yasakani no Magatama and Akainu's Great Eruption struck down toward their boat.

Ch. 257Changes

Akainu and Kizaru defeated Edward Weevil, whom Zephyr suspected was Whitebeard’s son, and recovered his body for Vegapunk. In 1516, Kong became Commander-in-Chief, Sengoku took over as temporary Fleet Admiral, and Aramaki’s promotion remained blocked as the Marines waited for Gigue to wake.

  • Zephyr recognized Miss Bakkin as a former Rocks Pirate who had sat on Whitebeard’s shoulder at God Valley, while Akainu’s attack reduced her corpse to ash.
  • Kizaru and Akainu defeated Weevil, and Zephyr identified him as Miss Bakkin’s son, prompting Kizaru to order his body retrieved for Vegapunk.
  • Binz used his vines to haul Weevil’s corpse aboard the warship.
  • The World Government transferred Kong to Commander-in-Chief and appointed Sengoku temporary Fleet Admiral after Shanks became a Sea Emperor and Kong struggled with the rising Yonko threat.
  • Akainu and Kizaru consulted Garling about Sengoku’s appointment, then persuaded Aokiji to stop insisting that only Black Dragon should be Fleet Admiral.
  • Warcury blocked Aramaki’s promotion to Admiral, and Aramaki told Aokiji to wait until Senior Gigue woke up.

Ch. 258Awakening

In 1520, Lucia and her companions watched over Gigue as he remained sealed in a blood crystal, while the Marines and pirates changed around them. After fourteen years of silence, Gigue awakened when the crystal shattered and spoke Lucia’s name.

  • Sengoku became Fleet Admiral, secured Garp’s return from Impel Down, and agreed to establish the Shichibukai system.
  • The World Government rejected Sengoku’s recommendation to promote Garp to Marine Admiral, and Garp returned as a worn-down Vice Admiral.
  • Lucia told the sleeping Gigue about Aramaki’s stalled promotion, Vergo becoming a Shichibukai, and Luffy defeating two Shichibukai.
  • Lucia worried that Gigue would no longer recognize her as she grew older, and a crack appeared in his blood crystal.
  • The blood crystal shattered, and Gigue awakened and softly said Lucia’s name.

Ch. 259Fusion Awakening: True Ancestor Form!

After awakening from a twenty-two-year sleep, Gigue reunited with Lucia, and their embrace and kiss awakened both her Fallen Angel Fruit and his Vampire True Ancestor powers. He left Lucia transformed into a vampire who shared his life, then recognized the grown Sugar and embarrassed her with memories from the past.

  • Lucia rushed into Gigue's arms and kissed him after he awoke, while Monet quietly left the room.
  • Lucia's Fallen Angel Fruit fully awakened as she embraced Gigue, and Gigue's Vampire Fruit awakened into the True Ancestor Form.
  • Gigue used First Embrace to transform Lucia into a vampire who shared his lifespan and restored her to her youthful appearance.
  • Lucia adjusted to her transformation and rested against Gigue as the others watched quietly.
  • Gigue recognized Sugar and teased her about her childhood comments, leaving her blushing and hiding behind Robin.

Ch. 260Gigue's Maid Corps

After waking, Gigue reunited with his maids and learned about their training, Robin's mother, and recent events involving Shanks. He prepared to visit his uncle Garling, while Lucia and the others competed to help him dress.

  • Hancock greeted Gigue, and Lucia explained that she had become one of his personal maids and had awakened Conqueror's Haki.
  • Monet and Ginny rushed to Gigue, who comforted them and reassured Monet that he had not meant to send her away.
  • Gigue asked Robin about the book her mother had compiled and told Robin she could meet her mother freely if the book satisfied him.
  • Robin said Olvia understood her mistake and wanted to stay and atone, while Gigue decided to visit Garling.
  • Gigue asked Lucia whether Shanks still had both arms, then relaxed when she said a recent newspaper picture showed no apparent injury.
  • Monet and the others volunteered to dress Gigue, but Lucia had already fetched his clothes and explained that she had taught them to help him change.
