"What's Peto Paradox? What the hell is that?"
As Klein's puzzled thought arose, the Gray Fog above Origin Castle churned, and three enormous question marks appeared beside his head.
Though he was a keyboard warrior, Klein could at most argue about politics, discuss weapons or movies, and browse forums. He had no impression whatsoever of such an obscure term.
Seeing the question marks above Klein's head, Feng Xue smiled faintly. He leaned back against his chair, just as the Fool had done countless times during The Tarot Club, and said:
"Peto Paradox was a phenomenon discovered by Richard Peto in 1977. Broadly speaking, it means that an animal's size and number of cells have no relation to whether it is prone to cancer. For instance, mice and humans differ enormously in cell count, yet their chances of developing cancer are nearly the same. But large animals like elephants and whales almost never get cancer."
"What does that have to do with me?" Klein frowned, unable to understand why cancer cells were being brought up here.
"It's very simple, because after that, there was a hypothesis—"
As he spoke, a pointer appeared in Feng Xue's hand, and a blackboard appeared behind him. As he rose and tapped the blackboard with the pointer, lines of Chinese chalk writing emerged—
"One theory holds that cancer cells themselves lack 'tumor suppressor genes.' That means cancer cells are more likely to develop cancer than normal biological cells. The cancer affecting cancer cells would then consume those cells just as cancer cells consume the human body, ultimately causing the cancer cells to die off before they could trigger a pathological change."
"!" Klein was no fool. Upon hearing this, he immediately understood Feng Xue's idea. However, he quickly frowned again and said:
"If the Lord of
