"Why am I being followed? Were they the ones who took those children before?" Ammon hid inside a stationery shop near the Primary School entrance, pretending to blend in with a group of children as he picked through the gaudy merchandise. At the same time, he pondered who exactly was following him.
Considering his obvious birthmark and the number of children around him, he figured he had not simply been unlucky enough to run into human traffickers. Those two thieves clearly had no organization behind them, and the orphanage did not seem to have much money either. They should not have gone so far as to look for him across regions.
That left only one possibility—
The trading partners of those masked traffickers.
They most likely belonged to some gang. Had they discovered that their subordinates were dead and that he had vanished, then traced him down? Did they want to get related information from him?
Or were they simply worried that he would expose them?
Ammon's mind raced as he came up with several strategies. Since they were not respectable people, they had to fear the police. All he needed to do was head near the Police Station!
As for whether there might be bad cops among the police... Even if there were, surely the entire Police Station could not have been bought off, right?
If that were really the case, they would not need to follow him at all.
