Near the entrance of Tiandu Academy, while Yan was teasing Zi Xue and Jin Lili in a pavilion, a carriage pulled up at the gate.

Sensing someone approaching, Yan released Zi Xue, moved closer to Jin Lili, and naturally wrapped an arm around her.

"Qian Renxue, Lili, who is this?"

Zi Xue and Jin Lili were both stunned by Yan's sudden move. Before they could speak, however, a voice from behind nearly scared them out of their wits. Zi Yan had somehow arrived outside the pavilion and was now sizing Yan up with curious eyes.

Yan gave Zi Xue and Jin Lili a look each, then turned with his arm around Jin Lili and replied, "Hello, Senior Sister Zi Yan. I'm Senior Sister Lili's friend—a good friend."

"Big Sister, when did you get here?"

Zi Xue gave them an understanding look, quietly pleaded with Jin Lili to play along, then put on a delighted expression and went over to link arms with Zi Yan. Girls really were born actresses; their coordination was flawless.

"I just arrived."

Zi Yan did not suspect anything from Zi Xue's behavior. She merely looked at Yan and Jin Lili with puzzlement. She had never expected her sister's close friend to have such a "good friend." Her little sister had not been led astray by her, had she?

"Zi Yan, honestly, you walk without making a sound. You scared me half to death."

Jin Lili also smiled, though one slender hand reached around to Yan's waist and gave it a twist to vent her displeasure. Then she introduced him to Zi Yan. "This is Yan, a first-year freshman and my 'good friend.'"

When Jin Lili said the words "good friend," she deliberately glanced at Zi Xue and openly let her see the hand twisting Yan's waist.
