Background

The Federation is portrayed as one of the democratic bloc’s principal powers. Its government publicly promotes democracy, freedom, human rights, and equality, while observers criticize it for prioritizing its own interests and supporting conflicts through arms sales and political interference. It is frequently compared to the Metadeng Nation because of these similarities 51.

Its military-industrial sector was once among the strongest in the colonies, but Skywing technology consistently outpaced it. Federation scientists assessed Skywing weapons, warships, Mobile Suits, and individual equipment as at least ten years ahead; later assessments concluded that the Federation’s technological development had reached a bottleneck 110 356.

Proxy-War Influence

The Federation supplied weapons to the Fistam Democratic Republic and other democratic powers, enabling the Fistam Republic to serve as a proxy against surrounding states. Its support contributed to an escalating conflict that endangered Skywing personnel and civilians in Philalip Nation. 154

During the Second Great War, the Federation supported the Democratic Alliance Army and used economic and political sanctions to discourage democratic member states from withdrawing. This coercion contributed to internal divisions within the alliance. 211

Conflict with Skywing

Under Purvi, the Federation accused Skywing Group of stealing Federation-developed technology. Skywing publicly challenged the Federation to reveal the relevant technology, software, and manufacturing systems; when the government refused, Skywing released technical details and exposed the claim as untenable. 285

The Cross Vanguard subsequently infiltrated Federation territory, attacked military facilities, abducted scientists and academicians, and captured confidential technologies from Colony Satellite No. 19. Five academicians, including Cordelia, later renounced their Federation citizenship and joined Skywing Group. 297 298

The Federation and Skywing gathered fleets along their border, but neither initiated open combat because both sides feared weakening themselves for rival powers. The standoff damaged the Federation’s standing as democratic states declined to support Purvi’s call for a united front. 293

Skywing forces later used the Mirage System and new Mobile Suits to raid meteorite bases, radar stations, arms factories, and colony satellites. Federation forces suffered severe losses, while Purvi was constrained by Congress and commercial interests from declaring full war. 299 356

Internal Crisis and Negotiated Withdrawal

After a major military defeat, Powell accused Purvi of ordering the failed operation. The military refused to obey Purvi, protests and riots spread through Federation colony satellites, and Congress considered a referendum on his presidency. 362 366

The Federation eventually accepted many Skywing demands rather than follow the Metadeng Nation’s path of destruction. Skywing received compensation, returned the colony satellites it had occupied, and withdrew from Federation territory. 374

Dion Occupation

The Dion Empire later occupied forty Federation colony satellites and conducted raids across the remaining territory. The Federation government criticized Skywing for aiding the Gas Empire rather than intervening, while citizens increasingly demanded that Skywing be commissioned for protection. 472

Dion forces coerced former Federation soldiers into fighting their own compatriots by holding their families hostage in the Mars Sphere. About 30% of the Federation’s mobilizable troops were affected by this tactic. 544 558

The Federation joined the United Army’s Mars Sphere campaign as the Wanluo Team, fielding Fei Lei, Apollo, and several Mobile Armor models. General Avis initially underestimated Dion technological advances, then shifted to attrition and guerrilla warfare after defeat. 436 438

Purvi’s Return and Economic Isolation

Purvi was reelected in Cosmic Year 125 after campaigning on restoring Federation strength and punishing the Dion Empire. He resumed hostile rhetoric toward Skywing and ordered domestic businesses to sever dealings with Skywing Group. 758 759

Skywing Empire retaliated by excluding companies connected to Federation citizens or firms from cooperation. The resulting loss of investment, trade, and business partnerships caused a sharp financial decline, unemployment, capital flight, and renewed demonstrations against Purvi. 941 942

Purvi’s conduct also caused the Federation to lose participation in the proposed International Exchange University, denying it access to technological cooperation and Newtype education opportunities. 934 936

Las Kingdom and Clone Scandal

Evidence released by the Skywing Empire linked the Federation to cooperation with the Las Kingdom, including Las agents replacing Federation officials. DNA testing further identified captured combatants as clones of deceased Federation soldiers and abducted civilians. 972

The clone program violated an international prohibition. The Anglo-Saxon Democratic Republic ended its alliance with the Federation, other states severed relations, and the International Conference unanimously expelled the Federation from the international community. 973

The scandal triggered riots and secession movements among colony satellites. The Skywing Empire intervened primarily to capture Purvi, obtaining his surrender with minimal resistance after Minister Shlaik privately assured local leaders that Skywing forces would withdraw once their objective was complete. 973 979

Readmission and Recovery
