The moment the system notification appeared, Uchiha Gin felt a cool sensation wash over both hands. The searing pain Amaterasu had brought vanished without a trace.
There was nothing unusual about his body either, as though everything that had just happened had been a dream.
Only the inexplicable swelling pain in his right eye left him unsettled. The scarlet Two Tomoe spun rapidly in his eye as a cold, sinister aura gathered within, giving him an unbearable urge to let it out.
Trying to guide that energy, Uchiha Gin instinctively released it toward the open ground before him.
As a "flower" of black flame ignited out of thin air on the ground, Uchiha Gin felt his Dojutsu Power draining at a frightening rate.
Warm blood spilled from the corner of his eye, frightening him into immediately deactivating his Sharingan.
The black flame on the ground, no larger than a lighter flame, slowly dissipated into the air as Uchiha Gin closed his Sharingan.
Having been utterly drained by just a tiny flame of Amaterasu, Uchiha Gin panted heavily and wiped the fresh blood from the corner of his eye, a hint of doubt rising in his heart.
As a Mangekyo-exclusive ability, how could he use it with a mere Two Tomoe Sharingan?
"Could it be the system?"
Unable to find an explanation through common sense, he could only force the blame onto the system.
After resting for a while, Uchiha Gin got up and rubbed his still sore, swollen right eye.
Amaterasu's appearance made up for his lack of damaging ninjutsu. Though Strength of a Hundred was immensely destructive, there was nothing he could do against nimble enemies.
"But in the original story, Amaterasu seemed incapable of killing anyone other than White Zetsu."
Remembering Amaterasu's record in the original story, Uchiha Gin grumbled inwardly.
When he returned to the house, Senju Itama was still snoring. Uchiha Gin lay on the sofa, staring gravely at his hands.
When Amaterasu had attacked him just now, he had already resolved to cut off his arm. Yet somehow, he had accidentally triggered a strange protective mechanism.
He could barely guess that the Whirlpool Clan Emblem on his right hand was a special protection granted by the Whirlpool Clan through the Whirlpool Mark.
It had activated passively when he was in danger. Those runes from before were probably the Fire Sealing Jutsu, automatically cast when the mark suffered Fire Release damage.
"But my left hand..."
Uchiha Gin looked at the completely bare back of his left hand. He tried using Chakra to probe his entire left arm, but it was like throwing mud into the sea. It merely consumed his Chakra slowly, with no other reaction.
Recalling the strange mark that had flashed by, Uchiha Gin tried to find an answer in the original owner's memories, but still came up empty-handed.
Ever since transmigrating here, he had reviewed the original owner's memories more than once. His childhood memories were probably vague because he had been too young.
The memories of the camp being attacked during his youth were fragmented, likely because the scene had been too brutal and traumatic, causing the original owner's mind to avoid it.
The memories after that were exceedingly bland—the daily life of a useless weakling—until Uchiha Gin appeared and replaced the original owner.
Give up! Unable to find an answer, Uchiha Gin simply gave up. He still had work tomorrow after a good night's sleep, and once he relaxed, he quickly fell into a deep slumber.
Early the next morning, Uchiha Gin got up bright and early and yanked away Senju Itama's blanket. Seeing Senju Itama sleeping soundly while clutching his childhood clothes, Uchiha Gin showed him no mercy and gave him a classic knuckle rap.
"Ahhh!"
Senju Itama instantly woke up, clutching his head as he looked at the culprit before him. "Ow, what are you doing?!"
Ignoring his familiar nonsense, Uchiha Gin said, "I'm going to work today. There's food in the kitchen. And don't even think about running away. The moment you step outside, it's all Uchiha Clan Members. If someone recognizes you, you should know the consequences."
Knowing his situation, Senju Itama pursed his lips and nodded unwillingly.
"I'll buy some Hair Dye when I come back tonight. We need to change that eye-catching hair color of yours first."
Uchiha Gin told him this before turning and leaving.
After heading out, Uchiha Gin followed the original owner's memories and leisurely made his way toward the Dungeon.
On the way, he ran into several Uchiha Clan Members. He raised a hand to greet them, but they reacted as if they had seen some terrible beast, quickly walking away without looking back and leaving Uchiha Gin utterly baffled.
Remembering the original owner's usual reputation, Uchiha Gin could only shake his head helplessly. This situation would not change anytime soon.
Arriving before a sinister gate, Uchiha Gin knocked on it hard. After a moment, a small opening appeared in the gate, revealing the gloomy Uchiha Clan Member who had come to notify him yesterday.
After taking one look at him, the man closed the opening. Then the gate slowly opened, and Uchiha Gin entered without suspicion.
Following the gloomy Uchiha Clan Member, Uchiha Gin passed through a narrow, pitch-black corridor and another door. As the path gradually widened, the surroundings became less dim, with torches embedded in the walls on either side providing light.
"From now on, I am your superior."
The Uchiha Clan Member leading the way suddenly spoke. His voice seemed to come from the Nine Hells, making chills run through one's entire body.
"May I ask how I should address you?"
Unable to judge the man's temperament, Uchiha Gin could only ask for his name first.
"Uchiha Ryuei."
The other man coldly tossed out the answer.
The two continued walking. The Dungeon seemed bottomless, and Uchiha Gin had no idea how long they had walked before Uchiha Ryuei finally stopped.
Uchiha Gin looked up and saw a small door with the words "Archives Room" written on it.
Uchiha Ryuei led him inside. What greeted his eyes were piles upon piles of scrolls scattered haphazardly across the tables, floor, and bookshelves, as if the place had been ransacked.
Facing Uchiha Gin's puzzled gaze, Uchiha Ryuei said,
"The previous archivist died in the line of duty, and the archive catalog he organized has also disappeared. You will reorganize everything from scratch."
Only after his explanation did Uchiha Gin learn that the Dungeon's former archivist had died while out on a mission, and the archive catalog had vanished along with him.
Whenever the clan needed to retrieve information on prisoners, they could only search through the records one by one, which was extremely laborious.
Not only had this turned the Archives Room into a complete mess, but the search efficiency was also painfully slow. They urgently needed a new archivist to verify and sort the prisoners all over again.
Looking at the scrolls scattered throughout the room, Uchiha Gin felt a headache coming on. He had guessed that Uchiha Tajima did not want him going out again, but he had not expected him to assign such a stay-at-home task.
With so many scrolls in this room, it would probably take him a very long time to verify them all.
"Will I have any help? There's so much information."
Uchiha Gin tried asking.
"There is no spare manpower."
Uchiha Ryuei, whose face was gaunt, looked at him expressionlessly. Uchiha Gin could not see even a hint of emotion in those lifeless eyes, as if he were a robot without feelings.
"Fine."
Uchiha Gin could only reluctantly accept the task.
"What about meals? And where will I rest?"
"The Dungeon has a cafeteria. You may return home at night."
Uchiha Ryuei answered concisely.
Hearing that he could return home, Uchiha Gin let out a sigh of relief. There was still a dangerous little brat at home. If he could not get back and something happened to Senju Itama, he would suffer along with him.
"To make it easier for you to verify the information, you may enter and leave the Dungeon cells freely."
Uchiha Ryuei's impassive eyes shifted slightly as he looked at him. "Although the prisoners' Chakra has been sealed and their hands and feet restrained, they are all extremely dangerous individuals."
Uchiha Gin could not help but feel somewhat surprised that Uchiha Ryuei had actually warned him.
"Don't die. It would be difficult for me to explain it to Elder Yan."
Well, thanks a lot.
Having finished his instructions, Uchiha Ryuei did not linger. He left on his own, abandoning Uchiha Gin there alone.
Shaking his head, Uchiha Gin could only begin his work.
First, he picked up all the scrolls scattered across the floor and piled them onto the Archives Room's only desk.
Looking at the mountain of scrolls before him, Uchiha Gin sighed, casually pulled one over, and opened it to read.
"Kaguya Josuke: Rogue Ninja. Murdered two Uchiha Clan Members. Suspected mental instability. Unable to be interrogated with genjutsu. Details unknown. Currently imprisoned in the Second Dungeon."
Kaguya? Curious about a clan that had appeared in the original story, Uchiha Gin immediately decided to take a look at this guy.
