Run! Don't Let the Moonlight Touch You!
Clocking in for work, Uchiha Gin returned to the dungeon and no longer felt the discomfort he had yesterday. It seemed the original owner of this body was highly compatible with this kind of environment.
After smoothly arriving at his post, Uchiha Gin's head began to ache as he looked at the same chaotic scene as yesterday.
But Uchiha Ryuei had already said he had no assistant. With a sigh, he could only do it himself.
The Archives Room had a simple layout. Bookshelves lined the walls throughout the entire space, while a desk stood in the empty area at the center. Uchiha Gin first checked the shelves one by one to see whether there were any labels.
Number One Dungeon: Archive scroll color—cyan. Crime level: High.
Seeing the few brief lines of explanation written on the shelf, Uchiha Gin breathed a sigh of relief. This would save him quite a bit of effort.
After that, he found the shelves for the Second and Third Dungeons. The two types of archives were blue and purple respectively, corresponding to medium- and low-level crimes.
The scroll he had casually opened yesterday had been blue. That Kaguya Josuke was only considered a medium-level criminal.
Uchiha Gin then recalled that his file had described him as, "A rogue ninja with mental problems."
From this, it could be inferred that the people who had captured Kaguya Josuke did not know he was connected to the tragedy in the Uchiha Clan Land six years ago.
They had only captured him because he had gone mad and attacked an Uchiha Patrol Team, resulting in the deaths of two Uchiha Clan Members.
Having "deeply communicated" with Kaguya Josuke, Uchiha Gin knew that the man had long since developed mental problems.
After being captured back then, they definitely had not managed to interrogate any hidden details out of him. Otherwise, he would not have remained imprisoned in the relatively lenient Second Dungeon all this time, without anyone interrogating him for years.
Kaguya Josuke's lead has come to a dead end. I wonder who captured him back then. Maybe I can find some clues from the arrest.
Uchiha Gin pondered to himself. Then he picked up Kaguya Josuke's file from the desk again.
"Kaguya Josuke: Rogue ninja. Murdered two Uchiha Clan Members. Suspected mental problems. Unable to use genjutsu for interrogation. Details unknown. Currently imprisoned in the Second Dungeon."
He flipped through it some more and saw a note.
"Prisoner Kaguya Josuke was captured by a team led by Uchiha Ryuei."
So it was him! The terrifying man who had led him around yesterday appeared in his mind.
Uchiha Ryuei was actually the one who had captured Kaguya Josuke six years ago. But judging by his facial expression, he was clearly the difficult sort to get along with. Uchiha Gin frowned as he considered how to bring up the matter.
Just then, the Archives Room door was pushed open.
Speak of the devil. The person who entered was Uchiha Ryuei, his face gaunt and his entire body radiating a chill.
After entering, the expressionless Uchiha Ryuei saw Uchiha Gin seriously examining a scroll in his hands and was somewhat surprised. This notorious playboy was actually working seriously.
But he put that surprise aside for now. Elder Yan had instructed him to come ask about yesterday's prisoner killing. This was part of his duties anyway.
Although the dungeon fell under Uchiha Yan's jurisdiction, he managed too many departments to oversee every single one of them personally.
Under such circumstances, every department had someone acting as its manager. Uchiha Ryuei was the Acting Warden of the dungeon, and everything in the dungeon, from top to bottom, was handled by him.
"You killed a prisoner yesterday?"
Uchiha Ryuei asked with a faintly cold expression.
"No, it was self-defense!"
Uchiha Gin cried out in protest before explaining, "I was only going to verify some information. Who knew that guy would dare attack me? Luckily, he was in terrible condition. Even his Shikotsumyaku had osteoporosis. After a few counterattacks from me, he ran out of strength and died."
"Shikotsumyaku?"
Hearing him mention the Shikotsumyaku, Uchiha Ryuei, who had not intended to ask any further questions, frowned and thought for a moment. "What was that guy's name?"
"Kaguya Josuke. I don't know who captured him back then, but how could such a vicious criminal be locked up in the Second Dungeon? What a—"
Uchiha Gin deliberately brought up the Shikotsumyaku, then pretended to condemn the person who had captured Kaguya Josuke.
"I captured him."
Uchiha Ryuei admitted with an ugly expression, having been struck right in the sore spot by Uchiha Gin's "careless remark."
"What an absolutely correct choice. Criminals should experience the humane management methods of our Uchiha Clan."
Seeing Uchiha Ryuei's face gradually darken, Uchiha Gin hurriedly changed his tune.
Only then did the other man's expression improve slightly. Seeing that the timing was about right, Uchiha Gin took the chance to raise his question.
"As expected of Officer Ryuei. You captured such a vicious criminal so easily. I wonder how you took down that guy back then?"
Upon hearing that, Uchiha Ryuei's brows relaxed. He seemed to search his memories for that incident. Seeing that he was reminiscing, Uchiha Gin did not disturb him and quietly waited.
A few minutes later, after recalling it more or less clearly, Uchiha Ryuei began recounting the whole story.
Six years ago, not long after Uchiha Tajima had taken over as Clan Leader, he led all the younger combat forces to the front lines in order to establish his authority.
Unexpectedly, the Clan Grounds suffered a massive upheaval. The Clan Leader's Mansion was even razed to the ground, leaving only one survivor at the scene.
Uchiha Tajima was filled with regret. From then on, he expanded the Patrol Team and increased the range of their patrols.
One month after the tragedy in the Clan Grounds, a patrol of Uchiha Clan Members encountered a strange enemy.
At first, the man did not conflict with the Patrol Team. He merely wandered dazedly near the Uchiha Clan's territory. The patrol members at the time assumed he was just an ordinary drifter.
Both sides remained at peace until a more cautious Uchiha Clan Member noticed what seemed to be traces of Chakra on him and activated his Sharingan to use genjutsu on him.
Unexpectedly, the moment the man saw the Sharingan, it was as though some switch had been flipped. He launched a violent attack on the patrol members.
Under his powerful taijutsu assault, two weaker Uchiha Clan Members had their chests punched through and died on the spot.
Seeing that they were outmatched, the remaining few immediately contacted the clan. The Clan Leader dispatched the then-rising Uchiha Ryuei to capture the culprit.
"Was Kaguya Josuke mentally normal back then?"
Uchiha Gin could not help interrupting Uchiha Ryuei's account. The other man did not mind and continued.
By the time Uchiha Ryuei led his team there, it was already midnight. Following the clues left behind by the patrol members who had been tracking the culprit, they caught up to him and finally saw what he truly looked like.
"He was a mess. Kaguya Josuke's hair was disheveled, and his clothes were tattered beyond recognition. He even staggered when he walked. At first glance, no one would connect him to a murderer. They would only think he was a foolish vagrant."
Uchiha Ryuei answered his question.
"Wasn't he injured at all?"
Uchiha Gin asked again.
"He was. His entire back looked as if it had been scorched by blazing fire, and pus and blood flowed from it."
Scorched by blazing fire? Mental collapse? Put together, it made Uchiha Gin's mind throb. He had a hint of inspiration, but he could not grasp it for the moment.
"How did you capture him in the end?"
Uchiha Gin wanted to know the entire process.
Uchiha Ryuei continued.
When the two sides first met, Uchiha Ryuei tested Kaguya Josuke with an opening attack. Unexpectedly, the man was knocked down in a single blow.
Just as he found this strange, one of the team members who stepped forward to inspect him activated his Sharingan midway. Kaguya Josuke, who had already been knocked down, suddenly sprang up again.
Fortunately, the teammates who had come with him were quite strong. One of them only lost the use of an arm, and his life was not in danger for the time being.
What followed was a fierce battle, mostly a contest of taijutsu. The man was incredibly fast, and ordinary ninjutsu could not hit him.
Kaguya Josuke, whose mind was deranged, was also immune to genjutsu. They could only wear him down with taijutsu.
They had originally been evenly matched, but for some reason, the man repeatedly lost focus during the battle and hid beneath the Tree's shadow. This gave him an opening. In the end, Uchiha Ryuei broke his arms and legs and captured him.
"Hide beneath the Tree's shadow?"
Uchiha Gin frowned, unable to understand why no matter how hard he thought about it.
"I didn't know why he did that during the fight either. But after we captured him, I heard him muttering under his breath."
Uchiha Ryuei recalled.
"What did he mutter?"
That stirred Uchiha Gin's curiosity.
"Run! Don't let the moonlight touch you!"
Uchiha Ryuei's cold voice rang beside his ear.
