"You're very pleased with yourself, aren't you?"
Yun Yun clenched her delicate hand, looking at Ya Fei with embarrassment and anger in her eyes.
"Pleased about what?" Ya Fei looked utterly baffled as she cautiously asked, "Do you mean discovering that more than one person possesses a Diary Copy?"
Yun Yun felt as though she had been mocked again. Drawing her sword, she pointed it at Ya Fei. "Don't think I truly wouldn't dare kill you."
Ya Fei's ample chest trembled slightly, her face full of innocence and grievance. "Sect Master Yun, what exactly do you mean?"
Clever as she was, Ya Fei had already realized that most of Yun Yun's current anger and embarrassment had nothing to do with whether the Diary Copy belonged to only one person.
There had to be some other reason she did not know about.
Rather than speculate endlessly, it was better to ask directly.
"You have a Diary Copy, so you must have read its contents." Humiliation and fury nearly consumed Yun Yun as she spoke coldly. "You're so clever. Could it be that you failed to guess that, because of Chu Xiao, I simply cannot kill you?"
"Yet you put on an act as though you were calmly marching to your death. This is clearly mockery of my incompetence."
"You must be quite pleased with yourself. I had an ambiguous relationship with Chu Xiao, yet the Misty Cloud Sect still met a tragic end. Meanwhile, you had good judgment and could simply lie back and head to the Great Thousand World."
"I truly am inferior to you when it comes to judging people, but that does not give you the right to look down on me!"
Hearing this, Ya Fei instantly understood.
The issue lay in the contents of the Diary Copy, which had caused Yun Yun to form an incorrect judgment about her.
The ridiculous part was that she had not even read its contents yet.
"Phew..."
Ya Fei let out a sigh of relief.
Yun Yun had said so much without cutting her down with a single stroke. It seemed that something written in the Diary was her talisman for survival.
Still, before determining just how reliable that talisman was, she had better remain cautious and not court death.
Otherwise, she really wanted to gossip and ask, "What exactly do you mean by your ambiguous relationship with Chu Xiao?"
"Ahem!" Ya Fei put on a friendly smile. "Sect Master Yun, I told you there was a misunderstanding. How could I possibly be mocking you?"
"Perhaps there are reasons you cannot kill me, but does that mean you cannot kill those I care about either?"
Yun Yun: "..."
If she had to consider Chu Xiao's attitude, then indeed, she could not.
"What do you mean by that?" Yun Yun frowned slightly.
"I only just obtained this Diary Copy. I haven't read what's inside yet." Ya Fei admitted it frankly.
"You just got it? How could that be?" Yun Yun's eyes were full of disbelief, but the hand holding her sword relaxed slightly.
With her strength, she could tell that Ya Fei was not lying.
"It's true." Feeling the pressure on her lessen, Ya Fei's legs went weak and she sat down on a nearby stool. She casually crossed her legs and explained with a smile, "I obtained it just now, outside this room. It appeared out of thin air before me."
"You probably haven't forgotten that you asked me to repeat my name. I was about to answer, but suddenly paused. That was when it happened."
"I had thought that since you would not see me, I could return to my room and study it. But then this happened instead."
"Whether these words are true or false, I trust they cannot escape Sect Master Yun's discerning eyes."
Yun Yun's pink lips parted slightly. "..."
After that brief exchange, she suddenly sensed what made this woman so terrifying. No wonder Chu Xiao regarded her differently.
There was no shortage in this world of women blessed with outstanding talent, beauty, temperament, and background.
Women like this, however—intelligent, perceptive, courageous, resourceful, and observant—were rare.
"I believe you."
Yun Yun stored her sword in her Storage Ring, then picked up her Ancient Book from the table.
She frowned in thought, wondering why she and Ya Fei had obtained their copies at different times.
Was there some hidden rule, or another reason entirely?
Within thirty feet, if two holders faced each other while holding their Diary Copies, they could bind each other as friends.
At that moment, an ancient, timeless voice appeared in Yun Yun and Ya Fei's minds.
Immediately afterward, they saw their Ancient Books automatically open. Their portraits appeared in the upper-right corners of the first page containing the rules.
"A friend-adding function?" Ya Fei licked her lips.
She had not even read the Diary's contents, yet she had already gained a new use for it?
"Add." Ya Fei made her decision at once.
"Add." Yun Yun did not hesitate either.
Now that they knew they were both holders of Diary Copies, they might as well try this friend function.
Both sides accepted. The binding was successful, and auxiliary abilities were unlocked.
Letter: Unlocks when the number of friends exceeds one. Within the Dou Qi Continent, messages can be sent to friends regardless of distance. The number of messages that can be sent is equal to the number of times the host's name is mentioned in the diary. Trade: Unlocks when the number of friends exceeds five. Within the Dou Qi Continent, an item can be traded remotely with a friend once, regardless of distance. Connection: Unlocks when the number of friends exceeds ten. Within the Dou Qi Continent, one can travel to and from a friend's side once per day, regardless of distance. When the host's (Chu Xiao's) strength surpasses that of a Dou Emperor, all auxiliary abilities will be fully upgraded.
"How terrifying—hiss!"
Yun Yun and Ya Fei gasped sharply in unison.
All three functions worked regardless of distance, so long as they were within the Dou Qi Continent.
From sending messages, to transferring items, to transporting people, each ability was more astonishing than the last.
Anything involving space required at least peak Dou King strength, yet even a Dou Zong could only begin to manipulate the power of space.
Legend had it that Dou Zun experts could wield spatial power with great mastery, but only within a certain range.
Such spatial methods covering the entire Dou Qi Continent were likely beyond even a Dou Saint. Only the legendary Dou Emperor could perhaps achieve them.
If used well, this ability could be used to transmit intelligence, explore dangerous ruins and Ancient Tombs, deliver aid at critical moments, and much more.
But the prerequisite was maintaining a good relationship with one's friends, so they would be willing to lend a hand when it truly mattered!
The two women thought of this almost simultaneously, and their gazes toward each other grew friendlier.
"I only have one chance to use the Letter function." Ya Fei's red lips curved slightly. "So my name only appeared once in the Diary?"
"Chu Xiao mentioned you for the first time in what he wrote just one cup of tea ago." Yun Yun nodded faintly.
After saying that, a flash of insight crossed Yun Yun's mind. She felt as though she had grasped something.
At that moment, Ya Fei asked, "Sister Yun Yun, how many chances do you have to send letters?"
Sister Yun Yun?
Yun Yun had to admire Ya Fei's ability to seize an opening, but she did not correct her and simply accepted it.
With Chu Xiao involved, Ya Fei's future was limitless. Not to mention that she now possessed a Diary Copy as well.
Yun Yun: Not that many. Count how many times my name appears when you read the Diary's contents, and you'll know.
Ya Fei noticed a "one" appear over Yun Yun's portrait in her Ancient Book.
When she opened it, she found a Letter message from Yun Yun.
Ya Fei: "..."
What a lavish display of wealth.
"So it really works. This truly is a great opportunity." Yun Yun moved closer to Ya Fei and could see the information on her copy as well.
Only then did she understand why the Diary Copy had not disappeared and why her memories had not been sealed.
As long as someone was also a holder of a Diary Copy, they were by default allowed to share information about the Diary Copy with each other.
"The Connection function only unlocks with more than ten friends." Ya Fei sat with one knee raised, her lively eyes gleaming. "That means there are at least ten people with copies, and this copy encourages us to make friends and get to know one another."
"But it does not tell us the criteria for possessing a copy. It will be difficult to find people by following clues, while searching blindly could leak information about the copies to irrelevant people and trigger the memory-sealing rule."
"We need to figure out the rule for obtaining a copy."
Yun Yun: Why did that feel like something had just been splashed all over my face?
