Background and History
The Snake-People Tribe once had ties to the Heavenly Serpent Empire and shared cultivation methods and Dou Skills with the Heavenly Serpent Mansion. After declining, the tribe fled to the remote lands of the Jia Ma Empire 65. Surrounding human nations later suppressed it in the scorching Tagor Desert, an especially harsh environment for its cold-natured bloodline 33 45.
Conflict with humans persisted on both sides: snake-people were captured and sold as slaves, while some snake-people raided human settlements 55 77. An agreement with Jia Ma Empire guardian Jia Xingtian barred experts above the Dou Wang level from entering each other's territory 93.
Medusa's rise to Dou Zong changed the tribe's prospects 141. During the subsequent regional war, the tribe occupied half of the Mu Lan Empire and sought to take the rest to establish a Snake-People Empire 183 186. It later built a holy city in the former Mu Lan Empire and moved its sacred pool into a new holy hall there 219.
Society and Cultivation
- Queen's succession — “Medusa” is an inherited title and name, passed to a new queen when the previous holder dies. Before becoming queen, Cai Lin was the tribe's Saintess 4.
- Elders and commanders — Four elders perform tribal secret arts and exercise considerable influence over the queen. The tribe also has eight commanders, including Yue Mei 18 54 139.
- Companion souls — After a child is born, tribal experts can implant the soul of a snake-shaped demonic beast. As the child grows, the soul gradually merges with their true form and can enable transformation into a demonic beast form 46.
- Bloodline evolution — The tribe's cold-natured bloodline is restrained by flame, lightning, and pure-yang power. Medusa sought to use that opposition to stimulate evolution, though exposure to a Heavenly Flame without careful control could gravely injure or kill her 64 69.
- Queen-bloodline secret arts — A Medusa Queen can use pills and a secret art during pregnancy to strengthen her successor. A previous succession left Cai Lin's twin sister sealed beneath the sacred pool after a sacrifice intended to secure the next queen's potential 59 219.

- Temporary human transformation — Four elders can jointly perform a secret art that turns Medusa's tail into legs for seven days without reducing her strength 18.
- Serpent Curse Mark — A bloodline seal that restricts a target's strength and lets its user sense the target within a hundred li. Medusa used it on the Heavenly Poison Scorpion Dragon Beast 63.
- Serpent Seal — Medusa used a seal to reduce the Black-Winged Cyan Lava Snake's cultivation to the initial Da Dou Shi level while leaving its durable body intact. She later used an improved version to bind Xie Bi Yan 57 182.
