"People have many flaws. Greed is the most dangerous of them," Ian remarked. He now understood why Ser Viri Veld was still penniless more than half a year later in the original story.
If Ser Veld had chosen to directly raid the people remaining in the fishing village, they could at least have obtained that batch of treasure. Unfortunately, he had not.
And judging from the outcome shown in the original story, no matter what plan Ser Veld had ultimately chosen, it had certainly failed.
"That was what I said at the time," Ser Viri Veld said, unusually voicing his support for Ian. "After their caravan left, we only needed to attack immediately. The treasure they had stockpiled in the fishing village would have been within our grasp. But Veld was adamant. He refused to act at once."
"And didn't later events prove that I was right?" Veld argued. "They are still camped there now, and no ship has come to collect them. That means they will wait until all the treasure has been moved into the fishing village before their ship arrives!"
Viri Veld clearly did not agree with Veld, but he did not contradict him further.
"So your plan is to wait until they have moved all the treasure to the fishing village, then wipe them out in one stroke?" Ian had gleaned Veld's intentions from his words.
"More or less." Ser Veld nodded.
"All right, then what is your complete plan?" Ian asked, intending to properly analyze Veld's plan.
Since he already knew the enemy's plan would fail, as long as he could identify the reason for Veld's failure in advance, he could turn defeat into victory.
"First, we keep the Abandoned Fishing Village under surveillance and make sure nothing unusual happens there."
