Ch. 1War Clouds

Cloud and Sand launched a surprise attack on Konoha, prompting the village to evacuate its civilians and mobilize its ninja. Uchiha Gen gathered with the Military Police Force and ended the night at the Hokage Building as Konoha prepared to face the approaching enemies.

  • An Anbu commander alerted Konoha that Cloud and Sand were attacking and ordered the village's ninja to evacuate civilians and assemble at the Hokage Building.
  • Uchiha Gen received an emergency summons, armed himself, and headed to the Military Police Force headquarters.
  • Uchiha Yashiro told the assembled Uchiha that Cloud and Sand were approaching Konoha and ordered them to evacuate civilians.
  • Konoha's ninja woke residents and directed them to shelters, completing the evacuation around dawn.
  • Konoha's ninja gathered at the plaza beneath the Hokage Building without time to rest.

Ch. 2Hiruzen Sarutobi

Hiruzen Sarutobi rallied Konoha’s undermanned defenders and led them toward the southeast as Cloud and Sand forces rapidly approached. Uchiha Gen rejected special protection, secured permission to operate alone, and went to choose a hunting ground.

  • Hiruzen Sarutobi bowed before Konoha’s gathered ninja, accepted blame for the invasion, and promised to resign after the war.
  • The ninja rallied to defend Konoha, and Hiruzen ordered them to deploy under Shinnosuke Sarutobi.
  • At Kikyo Mountain, Hiruzen learned Cloud and Sand were less than forty li away and ordered the defenders to prepare traps and delay their advance.
  • Uchiha Yashiro told Uchiha Gen to stay close, but Gen declined special treatment and asked to operate alone.
  • Uchiha Gen explained how he would target isolated Genin squads and retreat from stronger opponents, so Uchiha Yashiro approved his plan.
  • Uchiha Gen left to choose his hunting ground.

Ch. 3Initial Homies

As Konoha and the Allied Kumo-Suna Forces clashed near Kikyo Mountain, Uchiha Gen hunted Kumo Genin and used their souls and lifespans to create living weapons. He left to continue hunting, keeping his new Homies secret while seeking more souls to strengthen himself.

  • The Allied Kumo-Suna Forces broke through Konoha’s barrier and advanced toward Kikyo Mountain, triggering traps and beginning a fierce battle against Konoha’s defenders.
  • Uchiha Gen ambushed a three-man Kumo squad, using his Sharingan and genjutsu to incapacitate them before harvesting their souls and lifespans.
  • Uchiha Gen infused his shuriken and ninja sword with the captured souls, creating Homies that obeyed his commands.
  • Uchiha Gen considered the risks of revealing his living weapons and resolved to gather more souls before creating stronger Homies.
  • Uchiha Gen hid his transformed weapons, left the tree hollow, and continued hunting.

Ch. 4Showing Off Before a Master

Uchiha Gen defeated several suna ninja, used his Soul-Soul Fruit ability to create Homies from their souls and lifespans, and claimed a wolf puppet as his own. After leaving the battlefield, he was approached by a blond, blue-eyed Konoha ninja.

  • Uchiha Gen defeated a Sand Chunin and drained the souls and lifespans of the Chunin and three Sand Genin before destroying the Chunin's brain.
  • Uchiha Gen recovered his Chakra with Soldier Pills and resumed hunting suna ninja.
  • Uchiha Gen fought a sensory-capable suna puppet master, whose wolf puppet turned on him after Uchiha Gen made it a Homie.
  • Uchiha Gen ordered the wolf puppet to destroy its former master's brain, recalled his shuriken, and sealed the puppet in a scroll.
  • A blond, blue-eyed Konoha ninja appeared at the edge of the battlefield and said he had arrived in time.

Ch. 5Chapter 5

Minato Namikaze arrived at the Battle of Kikyo Mountain and helped Hiruzen Sarutobi defeat the Cloud and Sand Jonin besieging him, turning the battle in Konoha’s favor. While the allied forces collapsed, Uchiha Gen hunted fleeing ninja with his tree Homies, harvested sixty-nine souls, and then returned to Kikyo Mountain.

  • Konoha fought on four fronts, with Hiruzen Sarutobi overseeing the war and Minato Namikaze rushing between the most heavily contested battlefields.
  • Minato Namikaze killed four of the ten Jonin besieging Hiruzen Sarutobi, and Hiruzen used the opening to kill five more before Minato finished the last one.
  • Minato headed to Kikyo Castle while Hiruzen and his Shadow Clones went to support Konoha’s defenders, shifting the Battle of Kikyo Mountain toward Konoha.
  • Uchiha Gen animated trees with souls and used them to ambush and drain the souls and lifespans of enemy ninja who entered his hunting grounds.
  • After the Sand and Cloud forces were defeated, Uchiha Gen hunted fleeing ninja, counted exactly sixty-nine souls, and returned to Kikyo Mountain.

Ch. 6The First Advanced Homie

After the Battle of Kikyo Mountain, Uchiha Gen returned to the Uchiha Clan grounds, rested, and went to train the next morning. He created a vast natural fire and used part of his soul and accumulated lifespan to make his first advanced Homie, Zhurong, which could hide as a tattoo on his forearm.

  • Uchiha Gen returned to the devastated defense zone and reported to Uchiha Yashiro before helping with the cleanup.
  • The Uchiha Clan helped return villagers to Konoha, and Uchiha Gen went home to eat and rest while the clan mourned its losses.
  • The next morning, Uchiha Gen went into the forest and used Fire Release and Wind Release to create a massive blaze.
  • Uchiha Gen gave part of his soul and most of his accumulated lifespan to the flames, bringing the Homie Zhurong to life.
  • Uchiha Gen ordered Zhurong to stay hidden, and Zhurong attached itself to his left forearm as a fire-dragon tattoo.

Ch. 7Promotion to Chunin

Uchiha Gen received his Chunin promotion after his wartime achievements were reviewed. Meanwhile, Ōnoki judged Konoha weakened by the Battle of Kikyo Mountain and proposed an Iwagakure advance into the Land of Fire.

  • Uchiha Hiroshi told Uchiha Gen that Captain Yashiro wanted to see him.
  • Uchiha Yashiro gave Uchiha Gen a Chunin flak jacket and appointment certificate, noting that his record could have earned him Special Jonin rank.
  • Uchiha Gen thanked Yashiro, left the office, and accepted congratulations from the Uchiha Clan ninja he met.
  • Ōnoki summoned Iwagakure's elders to discuss intelligence about the Battle of Kikyo Mountain.
  • Ōnoki argued that Konoha was weakened and proposed sending Iwagakure forces through the Land of Fire toward Konoha.

Ch. 8Ōnoki's Grand Gamble

Ōnoki persuaded Iwagakure’s elders to gamble on opening a new front in the Land of Fire, with Kannabi Bridge as the essential logistics route. Meanwhile, Uchiha Gen stayed in the clan grounds, learned techniques at an astonishing pace, and memorized the clan’s Fire, Wind, and Earth Release collections.

  • Ōnoki argued that Iwagakure could exploit Sunagakure’s weakened state and seek cooperation with Kirigakure, and the elders agreed to commit a thousand ninja to the gamble.
  • Ōnoki identified Kannabi Bridge as vital to the new supply route, and the elders discussed how destroying it would prevent most Genin from crossing the river.
  • Uchiha Gen received no deployment orders and trained in the clan grounds while the Uchiha clan opened its stored techniques to qualified ninja during the war.
  • Uchiha Yashiro watched Uchiha Gen learn B-Rank Fire Release and Genjutsu techniques at an extraordinary pace, then authorized him to study any techniques within his authority.
  • Uchiha Gen used Zhurong to enhance his Fire Release and memorized the clan’s Fire, Wind, and Earth Release techniques for future study.

Ch. 9Back to the Front Lines

Uchiha Gen trained in Fire Release until he reached the threshold of Jonin, then received orders to reinforce Konoha’s front lines. He arrived in the Land of Fire and joined Minato Namikaze’s camp, where the forces were preparing to deal with the stranded Iwagakure ninjas.

  • Uchiha Gen focused on Fire Release training, using Zhurong as a guide, and greatly increased his strength over half a month.
  • Uchiha Gen received deployment orders and regretted that Obito Uchiha had become a hero before he could act against him.
  • Uchiha Gen joined a hundred Konoha Ninja at the village gates, and they set out to reinforce the front lines in the Land of Grass.
  • Uchiha Gen’s group reached a camp surrounding a mountain where Konoha had trapped the Iwagakure forces.
  • Minato Namikaze greeted the arriving group, and Kakashi Hatake and Rin Nohara led Uchiha Gen and the other lower-ranking ninjas to their quarters.

Ch. 10Team 7

Uchiha Gen warned Kakashi and Rin that the Uchiha Clan might reclaim Obito’s Sharingan, then proposed a way to protect it by adding an Uchiha to Team 7. Minato agreed to temporarily assign Gen to the team after Rin and Kakashi accepted the trial.

  • Uchiha Gen considered the risks of interfering with Rin Nohara’s fate and concluded he could not safely prevent her death.
  • Uchiha Gen told Kakashi and Rin that he would not take back Obito’s Sharingan and advised them to prepare for the Uchiha Clan to claim it.
  • Uchiha Gen suggested that Minato Namikaze could negotiate with the Uchiha Clan by adding one of its members to Team 7.
  • Kakashi and Rin reported Gen’s proposal to Minato, who said Gen could temporarily join if they accepted a new teammate.
  • Rin agreed to give Gen a chance, and Minato assigned him to Team 7 temporarily.

Ch. 11Join

Uchiha Gen joined Kakashi and Rin Nohara’s Team 7 temporarily and hoped to earn Minato Namikaze’s approval as a disciple. After introducing himself and explaining his dream of living freely, Gen bonded with his new teammates and revealed that he was distantly related to Obito.

  • Minato Namikaze assigned Uchiha Gen to Team 7 and offered to make him his disciple if he earned the approval of Kakashi, Rin, and Minato.
  • Kakashi Hatake, Rin Nohara, and Uchiha Gen introduced themselves beside a stream and shared their specialties and dreams.
  • Rin and Kakashi questioned Gen’s dream of living freely, and he explained that it meant being able to refuse what his heart rejected without being forced.
  • Kakashi and Rin said Obito’s dream of becoming Hokage was especially difficult, and Gen revealed that he and Obito were distant cousins.
  • The three grew comfortable with one another and parted on friendly terms.

Ch. 12Show What He Could Do

As Iwagakure launched a breakout assault, Minato Namikaze led Konoha’s response while Team 7 fought on the battlefield’s outskirts. Uchiha Gen used a powerful genjutsu to capture three Iwagakure ninja, and the team continued avoiding the dangerous center of the fighting.

  • More than eight hundred Iwagakure ninja charged toward the northwest, and Minato Namikaze ordered Konoha’s forces to reinforce the sector before teleporting there with Flying Thunder God.
  • Kakashi led Team 7 into the battle, where Uchiha Gen and Rin Nohara joined him in formation and the trio fought through enemy Genin.
  • Kakashi and Uchiha Gen combined Fire Release and Wind Release to engulf three Iwagakure Genin in a massive fireball.
  • An Iwagakure Special Jonin and two Chunin attacked Team 7 with Rock Iron Cannon, but Kakashi blocked the barrage and fought all three at once.
  • Uchiha Gen cast the Nirvana Temple Technique, putting the three Iwagakure ninja and nearly Kakashi to sleep, while Rin resisted after his warning.
  • Rin severed the captured enemies’ tendons and dislocated their jaws, and Team 7 continued fighting on the battlefield’s outskirts instead of entering its center.

Ch. 13Turning Point

Konoha defeated the Iwagakure forces that had invaded the Land of Fire, though the battle cost both sides many lives. Ōnoki secretly negotiated peace with Konoha, and the two villages withdrew most of their forces as Konoha prepared to attack Sunagakure.

  • Minato Namikaze led Konoha to victory after two hours of fighting, and more than five hundred Konoha Genin died in the battle.
  • Two days later, Minato received orders from the Third Hokage to take the remaining troops to the Land of Grass, while Ōnoki learned that Iwagakure's invading force had been annihilated.
  • Ōnoki accepted responsibility for Iwagakure's failed gamble and directed his elders to secretly negotiate peace with Konoha.
  • Hiruzen Sarutobi agreed to lenient peace terms, and Jiraiya and Minato Namikaze quickly concluded negotiations with Iwagakure's envoys.
  • Iwagakure withdrew most of its army from the Land of Grass, and Konoha sent its forces toward Sunagakure's frontline base near the Land of Rain and the River Country.

Ch. 14Extraordinary Measures in Extraordinary Times

After Iwagakure and Sunagakure withdrew from the Third Great Ninja War, Yagura and the future Fourth Raikage each considered drastic plans to turn the fighting against Konoha. The chapter ended with Kumogakure preparing a two-pronged surprise attack.

  • Sunagakure accepted a humiliating peace treaty that transferred thirty percent of its mission share to Konoha, and Chiyo and Ebizo resigned as elders.
  • Yagura learned that his forces had found traces of the Three-Tails and approved Hirotada’s plan to seal it inside a Konoha ninja and unleash it in Konoha.
  • A agreed to a plan in which a main force would distract Konoha while he, Killer B, and sensory ninja attempted a surprise assault with the Eight-Tails.
  • A said that if the attack failed, Kumogakure would withdraw most troops but leave about a thousand behind to harass Konoha.

Ch. 15Little Schemer

Uchiha Gen, Kakashi, and Rin joined Konoha’s rapid support unit to intercept Cloud’s invading force, and their ambush turned into a fight in which Gen’s hidden Sharingan helped decide the battle. The three survived and joked about their roles as the fighting continued.

  • Minato Namikaze told Uchiha Gen, Kakashi, and Rin that he would intercept Cloud’s covert force while they joined the rapid support unit against the overt group.
  • After traveling for a day and night, the Konoha unit laid traps along Cloud’s route and ambushed the advancing ninja, while a Cloud spy slipped away.
  • Uchiha Gen and Kakashi engaged three Cloud ninja, and Rin poisoned one who charged toward her.
  • Uchiha Gen revealed his Two-Tomoe Sharingan and caught two Cloud ninja in genjutsu, allowing him and Kakashi to kill them.
  • Uchiha Gen proposed being the main carry, and Kakashi and Rin agreed to their roles.

Ch. 16Distinguished Battle Achievements

Uchiha Gen helped Konoha repel a Kumo Ninja assault, using his fire techniques and Sharingan genjutsu to stand out on the battlefield. He ended the battle with ten confirmed kills as Minato Namikaze drove back the A-B Combo, ending Kumogakure’s chance to turn the war around.

  • Uchiha Gen, Kakashi, and Rin Nohara encountered two Kumo Ninja, and Gen used Zhurong to intensify his flames and burn them alive.
  • Uchiha Gen joined the battle to support Konoha Ninja, saving one from a lethal attack and killing the assailant with genjutsu and his sword.
  • Uchiha Gen used the Great Dragon Fire Technique to kill another Kumo Ninja, then continued supporting the Konoha forces while Kakashi protected Rin.
  • Uchiha Gen became the most conspicuous fighter on the battlefield, killing ten Kumo Ninja, including six Chunin, three Special Jonin, and one Jonin.
  • Minato Namikaze forced the A-B Combo to retreat, while most of the Kumo assault force was killed or pursued.

Ch. 17Jonin

After Cloud withdrew from the Land of Fire, Hiruzen Sarutobi approved Uchiha Gen’s promotion to Jonin, and Gen celebrated with Kakashi, Rin Nohara, and Minato Namikaze. As the war with Mist continued, Gen’s brief rest was interrupted by an invitation from Fugaku Uchiha.

  • Uchiha Gen traveled with Minato Namikaze’s group to the Cloud front, where Orochimaru welcomed them and the commanders discussed the situation.
  • Cloud withdrew its main army from the Land of Fire, and Hiruzen Sarutobi ordered rewards and rotations for the front-line ninja.

  • Uchiha Gen returned to Konoha, where the Uchiha Clan began calling him and Shisui Uchiha the Twin Stars.
  • Uchiha Gen celebrated his promotion at Barbecue Q with Kakashi, Rin Nohara, and Minato Namikaze, then received an invitation from Fugaku Uchiha while preparing to rest.

Ch. 18Itachi Uchiha

Uchiha Gen visited Fugaku Uchiha’s home, where he met Mikoto and the young Itachi. As he considered the Uchiha clan’s political situation and Itachi’s future role in its destruction, he concealed his hostility and followed Mikoto to the reception room.

  • Uchiha Gen spent the morning in Konoha before returning to the Uchiha estate with pastries for Fugaku Uchiha.
  • Mikoto Uchiha welcomed Uchiha Gen into her home and invited him to call her by her name.
  • Itachi Uchiha came downstairs, greeted Uchiha Gen politely, and was told to call him Brother Gen.
  • Uchiha Gen reflected on the Uchiha clan’s divisions, Itachi’s part in the clan’s future massacre, and the possibility of changing Itachi’s path.
  • Uchiha Gen hid his negative feelings from Itachi and followed Mikoto to the reception room.

Ch. 19Transformation of Image

Uchiha Gen met with Fugaku Uchiha and proposed using Obito’s Sharingan to negotiate benefits, including a chance for an Uchiha to become Minato’s disciple. He then urged Fugaku to support multiple Hokage candidates rather than risk backing only one, leaving Fugaku impressed by his strategy.

  • Fugaku Uchiha summoned Uchiha Gen to meet him and praised his prospects as a rising Uchiha talent.
  • Gen suggested negotiating over Obito’s Sharingan instead of trying to reclaim it from Kakashi, potentially securing Minato’s mentorship for an Uchiha.
  • Fugaku promised Gen a squad-captain position in the Military Police Force and imagined his son Itachi becoming Minato’s disciple.
  • Gen warned that Orochimaru could beat Minato to the Hokage position and argued that the Uchiha should support multiple candidates.
  • Fugaku enthusiastically approved Gen’s plan to hedge the clan’s political bets.

Ch. 20A Growing Stature

Uchiha Gen proposed using Uchiha funds to build ties with Orochimaru, while Fugaku Uchiha arranged to approach Minato Namikaze through a dinner invitation. The chapter ended with Fugaku and Minato meeting privately, both prepared to discuss Kakashi’s Sharingan and their interests in cooperation.

  • Uchiha Gen explained to Fugaku Uchiha that the clan could fund Orochimaru’s research in exchange for an Uchiha becoming his disciple, giving the clan ties to both leading Hokage candidates.
  • Fugaku Uchiha agreed to recommend Uchiha Gen to Orochimaru if Gen failed to become Minato Namikaze’s disciple, then invited Gen to stay for dinner.
  • After Gen left, Fugaku told Mikoto Uchiha about Gen’s plan, and the couple later encouraged Itachi Uchiha to learn from Gen.
  • Fugaku wrote to the Uchiha Clan Head, who approved Gen’s plan, urged Fugaku to nurture him, and sent Shisui Uchiha back to Konoha as a backup.
  • Mikoto invited Kushina Uzumaki and Minato Namikaze to dinner, after which Fugaku took Minato aside to talk while Mikoto accompanied Kushina on a walk.
