I Am Batman

Batman was deeply conflicted.

If he upheld his principles and promises, he would have to expose his identity as Batman, give up the Wayne family legacy, and go to prison himself.

If he abandoned his principles, could he still be Batman? Would he still be worthy of being Batman?

These thoughts had been tangled in his mind.

The old butler saw Bruce Wayne's dilemma. He firmly opposed Bruce turning himself in and kept trying to persuade him to abandon the idea. If Bruce had to give something up, he believed Bruce should give up being Batman rather than the Wayne family.

Unable to ease his mind, Bruce Wayne had not taken out the Batmobile for some time afterward. The people of the city had not seen any sign of Batman for days. Many had even begun asking why Batman had not appeared. Had he gone on vacation?

Dressed in riding clothes, Bruce walked across the level lawn. Though he looked at the scenery around him, he could not muster much interest. He had realized that something was wrong with his mind. All of a sudden, he felt as though he had lost his direction and purpose.

In many cases, mental illness was far more painful than physical illness.

That day, a servant approached carrying a tray with an envelope on it. "Mr. Wayne, someone just delivered a letter for you at the entrance. He said what you wanted was inside."

Batman looked at the envelope in confusion. "What I wanted? Who sent it?"

"A man with a rather eerie smile," the servant said.

Batman opened the envelope. Inside were a letter and a flash drive. The letter contained only one sentence: "Open the flash drive and take a look. I'll be waiting for you there."
