Jiang Hao listened to opera while working away. Flames rose, cooking oil hit the wok, and vegetables of every color were tossed in. His spatula danced up and down with the music, and before long, a plate of stir-fried broccoli was ready.
The door opened softly. A figure tiptoed in, poked her head into the kitchen, then timidly walked up behind Jiang Hao and wrapped her arms around his waist.
A smile appeared on Jiang Hao's face. He took off his headphones and patted the arms around him. "It's ready. Carry the plate."
Zhou Xinyan took the plate and looked curiously at Jiang Hao's headphones. "What are you listening to?"
"Opera."
Carrying the plate, Zhou Xinyan asked curiously, "Opera? That sounds so highbrow. Since when did you start liking opera?"
"You might not know this, but I don't just like listening to it—I can sing it too," Jiang Hao said.
"You can sing opera? Really?" Zhou Xinyan stared at him with wide eyes.
"Want to hear it? Unlock a position for me."
Zhou Xinyan spat at him. "Is there anything you haven't unlocked yet?"
Jiang Hao cupped Zhou Xinyan's little face, pinched her pouting lips together, and kissed them. "Oh, my wife is so cute—and so obedient too. Come on, let's eat."
The two sat down for dinner. Zhou Xinyan said excitedly, "Honey, I have good news."
"What good news?"
"I'm on vacation—annual leave. I have ten days this time, so we can go out and have some fun." Zhou Xinyan sounded excited.
