Inside the prison cell,
The oil lamp's flame flickered. Many people had already fallen asleep, and the women sharing the cell with Jiang Hao were still huddled together as they slept.
"Cough!"
The woman in the middle suddenly coughed a few times, then hurriedly suppressed it. It was obvious that she was in great discomfort.
"Cough, cough, cough~~"
But how could she possibly suppress a cough? The woman began coughing repeatedly. The women surrounding her all woke up and immediately checked on her. One of them said anxiously, "Oh no, her fever is getting worse."
"Whew... whew... whew~~" The woman in the middle gasped heavily, seemingly trying to dispel the oppression in her chest.
"Should I ask those horse bandits to treat her?" one woman suggested.
The woman in the middle immediately grabbed the speaker's arm and said with difficulty, "No, don't. I'm afraid... I'm afraid some of them might try something."
Jiang Hao had been meditating with his eyes closed. He had awakened as soon as the women began talking and had listened to their conversation the entire time. This was the first time he had heard the woman in the middle speak.
Though the speaker's voice was hoarse, he could tell that it was extremely young. She was clearly not very old; perhaps she ought to have been called a girl instead.
"But you'll die if you aren't treated!" one woman said tearfully.
The girl shook her head. "No. Those horse bandits can't cure my illness anyway. Besides, I don't want those horse bandits touching my body. Not even if it means dying."
The women knelt on the ground, silently weeping in sorrow.
Just then, a man's voice rang out. "I know some medicine. Do you need me to take a look?"
