Jiang Hao looked out the window. Only the afterglow of the setting sun remained, and Marilyn still had not returned.
Wait a little longer.
Jiang Hao placed a freshly baked cake on the table.
The sky outside gradually darkened, but Marilyn still had not come back.
Jiang Hao frowned. Had she gone back to her apartment to pack her luggage?
Jiang Hao got dressed, went downstairs, and drove toward Marilyn's place. Fortunately, they were both in Manhattan, so it only took a little over ten minutes by car. Jiang Hao glanced up at the balcony and saw that Marilyn's lights were on. He smiled.
He glanced next door again and saw that Shaman's lights were on as well. It seemed Mr. Sharman had been discharged from the hospital. Jiang Hao came to the door but did not ring the bell. He wanted to play a joke on Marilyn and surprise her. At the door, he took a small piece of iron wire from his storage space and poked at the lock twice. With a click, the building door opened.
He pushed the door open and slowly climbed the stairs, trying not to make a sound. But when Jiang Hao reached Marilyn's door, he heard crying.
Yes,
Crying—and he was certain it was Marilyn crying.
Jiang Hao's heart jumped. He immediately used the wire to open Marilyn's door. Marilyn was lying facedown on her bed, crying. Suddenly, a large hand touched her head. Marilyn jumped up in fright, but when she saw it was Jiang Hao, it was as though she had seen the person closest to her. Her tears streamed down again. She crawled two steps across the bed on her knees and threw herself into Jiang Hao's arms.
"Boohoohoo~~~" Marilyn cried bitterly, and there was fear in her sobs.
