The car sped away, temporarily escaping danger. Once the gunman relaxed, he immediately slumped back into his seat, and the pistol moved away from Jiang Hao's neck.

Jiang Hao glanced at the man through the rearview mirror. The guy's face was pale. Jiang Hao had seen him get shot earlier, and his gun had long since run out of bullets. Holding it to Jiang Hao's neck had been nothing but a bluff.

The man slowly closed his eyes and slumped sideways in the seat. Jiang Hao had no idea whether he was dead or unconscious, but he did not stop. About ten minutes later, he arrived at a secluded stretch of riverbank in Manhattan.

Jiang Hao got out and checked on the man, confirming that he had merely passed out. He dragged him out and tossed him aside. Looking at the blood-soaked leather seats, shattered car windows, and several bullet holes in the rear of the car, Jiang Hao knew he needed to switch vehicles.

Jiang Hao looked the man over. White, around six feet tall, probably in his thirties, with somewhat deep-set eyes and a short, scruffy beard.

When Jiang Hao had checked him earlier, he found that the bullet had struck his back and pierced his lung. In that condition, the man would not survive even if he were taken to a hospital. Jiang Hao looked at him, his mind racing. A minute or two later, he noticed the man's breathing growing weaker and weaker.

If he did not act now, the man really would die.

He took several silver needles from his space, ripped open the man's shirt, pulled him up into a cross-legged sitting position, and swiftly inserted several needles into his back and chest. The wound that had been spurting blood immediately stopped bleeding.
