Elmo was led away by the bailiffs. Before long, another man emerged from the back. He was tall, with melancholy eyes. He looked around this once-familiar place, and countless emotions rose in his heart.

"Mr. Andy Dufresne, on October 7, 1947, this court sentenced you for murder. Due to insufficient evidence, the previous verdict is hereby overturned."

After speaking, the judge brought down his gavel heavily.
