"Spirit Particle Technology?"
Semiramis, who hailed from the Age of Gods, was quite unfamiliar with this novel term. She frowned slightly, urgency flashing in her eyes.
She desperately wanted to know why her garden had suddenly gone out of control.
"It was an emerging method of reweaving magecraft through souls and networks..."
As the actual backer and boss behind the Clock Tower's Mooncell team, Samael knew a fair amount about this field. He promptly explained the general causes and operating principles behind this "weaving" to Semiramis.
The era Semiramis had lived in was also known as the Age of Gods. Back then, Earth had been shrouded in immense Mystery, and the surface was filled with extraordinarily dense mana. It had been an age when magic flourished.
Magicians of the Age of Gods differed from later magi. They had no need to seek the power of the Root, because the Root had been right beside them.
But as Mystery steadily faded, the concentration of ether gradually declined as well, forcing magi to develop new methods for utilizing sparse mana.
Some especially forward-thinking magi even considered how thaumaturgical formulas could function in a world without mana.
In the end, they found another path. They used souls as a source of magical power, computer networks and cloud computing as a medium, and recoded magecraft within the virtual world.
This had originally been a subject first explored by the Atlas Institute, one of the Mage's Association's three major organizations. The pseudo-spirit particle calculator, Tri-Core Hermes, had been born from that research.
But the magi's obsession with pedigree and their pride in bloodlines kept them from lowering themselves enough to abandon real-world magecraft and pioneer the virtual world.
Yet as the times advanced and academic exchange expanded, the spread of technologies such as networks and
