Seeing the evil spirit in the darkness about to break through the window, Gray closed her eyes and chanted an ancient incantation. Her voice trembled slightly, but the hand gripping the black scythe swung with unwavering resolve.
With a faint sound of cloth tearing, the monster that had thrust half its body inside was instantly cleaved apart by a sharp flash of steel.
The drifting evil spirit stared blankly at the lower half of its body as it fell away. For a brief moment, it seemed to peer through time and space, seeing its former self lying on the tracks and the train bearing down on it.
Lying on the tracks really hurt...
A moment later, the evil spirit, its memories of death stirred awake, flared with savage malice. It shrieked and lunged forward, trying to drag the living being before it down into the same hell it inhabited.
However, the instant the monster charged, a cluster of black flames rose from its severed waist and abdomen. Like fire meeting grease, they erupted violently.
In the blink of an eye, the evil spirit's shrill screams faded as it melted completely within the blaze, turning into a wisp of smoke that drifted away.

Seeing this, Gray's heart settled. She gripped the black scythe with both hands and stood guard before the train window.
At that moment, as space blurred and the barrier interfered, the dead trespassed into the realm of the living. Swarms of undead surged toward the train from the darkness, seeking to occupy fresh bodies and feast upon delicious souls.
