"Love was the most contagious virus..."
Samael murmured the concluding words from the final page of Shingyoin Kiara's diary, his feelings complicated.
Advanced AIs were artificial intelligences composed of the [Mooncell] program.
They had originally been treated as things that "operated as programs" yet "could not exist as independent individuals." In other words, they existed before one's eyes while also not existing. They were merely mechanical frameworks meant to smoothly advance human life.
The same applied to the Mooncell program used by Chaldea. They were hypothetical life-forms created to handle special crises in human history, meant to be discarded once those crises ended.
According to the plan, the human-like hypothetical life-forms within the Mooncell system were divided into NPCs that handled only a single purpose, AIs granted the authority to make their own judgments, and advanced AIs entrusted with both independent judgment and district management.
Advanced AIs had been created to efficiently fulfill Mooncell's primary purpose: "human observation." Though they perfectly reproduced humans, even programming in souls, they merely possessed souls. Their inner nature remained colorless.
After each phase of operation, the hypothetical life-forms had their memories reset. NPCs and AIs returned to zero, while advanced AIs retained their personalities but had their records reset—as though nothing had happened.
Therefore, they should not have possessed overly abundant emotions, likes, or dislikes. They should have maintained a fair and neutral stance while managing all of Chaldea's affairs.
But now, it seemed everything had changed.
For some reason, these advanced AIs called Guardians had developed intense emotions. They had even broken through the limitations of humans and programs, acting according to their own preferences, turning all Chaldea personnel into data, and containing and hiding them.
The truth behind this "disease" had long been revealed in Genshin's diary.
A virus called "love"...
