Amid her cold, solemn chant, the Queen of the Shadow Realm bent her knees and leaped into the air, standing suspended overhead. Two great gates of the Shadow Realm, their frames formed entirely from jagged mountain stone and engraved with twenty-four primordial runes, slowly opened. The tangible red-black Aether Tide surrounding them formed a massive reverse-spinning vortex, swallowing more than half the locust demon army filling the sky like a whale drawing in water.

After the abyssal realm devoured millions of airborne locust demons, its gates slammed shut.
