A tiger's mournful cry rang out. A striped beast lay sprawled on the ground, with Krillin straddling it, his powerful fists raining down on its head. The tiger let out repeated wails, then died moments later.
"This bastard was pretty clever. I had to cross three whole mountains to chase you down," Krillin said bitterly, wiping away his sweat.
"System, scan its energy." Ding. "Contains 5 points."
"Pah, trash!" Ever since he had passed the stable period, obtaining energy had become incredibly difficult. His energy was nearly depleted. This was too hard, Krillin thought with a bitter smile.
The places Krillin ventured into this time were all uninhabited regions, some even classified by the United Kingdom as lands of certain death. Yet there were indigenous people living in these deadly lands, surviving by hunting. The natives here were kind and peace-loving. They were delighted whenever they met Krillin, treating him to food and drink. After half a month of getting along, Krillin had gradually integrated into their community. After that, he went hunting with Old Aman.
Long after the tiger had fallen, Xiao Man arrived with the others. Xiao Man was Old Man's son. He was about two meters tall, broad and powerfully built. Since they did not share a language, Krillin had named Old Man and Xiao Man himself.
Xiao Man stepped forward. "Guruguru, guruguru..." He seemed to be praising Krillin, marveling at how such a small body could unleash such astonishing strength.
Of course, that would be another matter if Krillin could understand him.
Xiao Man directed the others to carry the tiger back. The tiger was extremely heavy, and they seemed to be struggling.
"No need to make this so troublesome." Krillin tossed out a capsule, and the tiger was stored inside. Seeing this, everyone immediately dropped to their knees and cried out, as though praising a god.
In the end, the group returned to their gathering place. They had no fixed home, instead wandering with the prey they hunted. Old Aman was already waiting for their return. When he saw them come back empty-handed, a trace of disappointment appeared in his eyes.
Xiao Man ran over to Old Man, shouting and gesturing wildly. Old Man seemed doubtful, but when Krillin opened the capsule, another round of songs of praise erupted.
Of course, the tiger was not their only prey. On the contrary, their haul was abundant. To celebrate the harvest, everyone held a bonfire party. As the greatest contributor, Krillin naturally had to be the star of the celebration.
Sunlight filtered through the forest while birds chirped overhead. Everyone bustled about, their faces full of happiness. Krillin had roughly learned from Xiao Man that today was a monthly sacrificial ceremony. Everyone had to participate, kneeling in worship and prayer.
Krillin decided that since he was here, he should follow the local customs. When Old Man took out several blackish, slightly hard ores, the system became agitated.
Ding dong. "High-grade energy detected. The energy level is quite high."
"What? Where?" Krillin asked excitedly.
"Find it yourself. I already reminded you, which is more than enough." The system sneered.
"Screw you! One day, I'm definitely uninstalling you."
Initiating search. Beep, beep, beep. Target: in Old Man's hand. Target information as follows:
Immortal Stone (Fragment) Energy contained: 2500 points Function: When carried for long periods, the energy it emits can be absorbed by living beings, increasing Battle Power to a certain extent. However, it is only a fragment, so its effect has greatly diminished. Origin: Immortal System, Immortal Planet
Krillin's eyes immediately lit up. It actually contained so much energy. He was tempted, but it was truly difficult. If he did not know them, he could simply snatch it and run, perhaps even kill them for it. But now he had already become familiar with them, and they were so simple and kind. Sigh, this is difficult! Krillin thought helplessly.
Hopefully, it was not something important. But that was obviously impossible. He had not seen it once during this past month. Old Aman had only carefully taken it out for the sacrifice, so it was clearly an extremely precious token. Difficulty of obtaining it: +99.
After the ceremony ended, Krillin hesitated for a while before deciding to find Old Aman and explain. If I get it, it is my fortune. If I do not, it is my fate. This is only the beginning. If I turn into a beast over this little bit of energy, then I do not deserve to become strong. There are countless paths to godhood—could this really stump me? Only by staying true to my heart can I see things through to the end.
"Old Aman, I'm here to see you!"
When Old Aman saw Krillin, a kind, benevolent smile appeared on his face, as though he were looking at his own child.
"Grandpa Aman, I came because I have something to ask of you." Aman looked confused, apparently unable to understand.
Krillin took out a drawing of the Immortal Stone that he had made, pointed at the Immortal Stone, then pointed at himself. The meaning of that gesture was plainly obvious.
Old Aman understood at once, but he seemed to become a little wary. Krillin smiled. Should I try again? He then took out another drawing, this one filled with prey. Krillin pointed at the drawing, then at the Immortal Stone, meaning that he would trade prey for the broken stone.
Old Aman quickly nodded, waving his arms about. Clearly, he believed Krillin had the ability to catch that much prey.
Krillin secretly rejoiced. People regard food as their heaven. The ancestors truly did not deceive me.
But before Old Aman saw the prey, he obviously would not give Krillin the Immortal Stone. He would not release the hawk before seeing the rabbit. Simple as he was, he was not lacking in shrewdness.
With Krillin's strength, hunting those animals was as easy as turning over his hand. In just one day and one night, Krillin caught enough prey to feed Old Aman's entire tribe for three months.
When Old Aman saw the prey, he reluctantly pulled out a small pouch sewn from animal hide from his clothes. He slowly opened it, took out the Immortal Stone, and handed it to Krillin.
"Haha, I got it." Holding the stone, Krillin immediately sensed its extraordinary nature. It was warm and emitted waves of heat that nourished his body. No wonder Old Aman regarded it as a treasure. It truly was extraordinary.
This was only a fragment. One could imagine how powerful a complete one would be. "Xiaoxi, what kind of planet was Immortal Star?" Although Krillin had been reborn, he was filled with curiosity about the mysteries of the Universe. The Universe was far greater than imagined, boundless and without end.
"Just a pile of scraps. Immortal Star perished 150 million years ago," the system said calmly.
Krillin felt somewhat regretful, but also fortunate. This fragment carried such an ancient, weighty history, and now it had fallen into his hands. Perhaps it was fate.
"Look at that country bumpkin expression. Hurry up and train. Someday, I'll take you into the Universe!"
That was just the system's shitty personality. Krillin could not be bothered to say anything anymore. "Absorb it, System."
Ding. "Obtained 2500 energy. Viewing energy panel."
Potential: 1050 Energy: 89 Training Speed: Supersonic (5 days remaining, please renew promptly) Usable Energy: 2589
Not bad. His Battle Power increased by 10 points per day. At this rate, in another 105 days, he would reach the Earthling Limit.
Keep it up, Krillin. The road to finding energy was long and arduous.
Three days after obtaining the Immortal Stone, it was time to leave. There was little point in staying here any longer. He should say goodbye to Old Aman. The old man was actually quite decent, though he was the craftiest one in the whole tribe.
Krillin was packing his things. After all, he had lived here for more than half a month, so he had gathered plenty of equipment. Old Aman came in, his face carrying a hint of expectation.
The instant he entered, the system sent out a signal. High-grade energy in large quantities detected. Krillin's expression changed drastically as he shouted, "Damn it! There's more? Why didn't you take it out earlier? Good thing I haven't left yet."
Old Aman came in and gestured wildly. What did that mean? Krillin was a little confused and began to speculate. Old Aman must have wanted something, and it could not be prey, or he would have come sooner. What exactly did he want? With no other choice, Krillin took out his things for Old Aman to choose from. When he brought out the capsule, Old Aman jumped up excitedly. That was it.
Krillin chuckled. "Old man, it's my turn now."
The old man took out one Immortal Stone. Krillin put on a convincing act, his expression abruptly changing as he pretended to take the capsule back. Old Aman immediately panicked and hurriedly took out another piece. Krillin remained unmoved. Old Aman had no choice but to take out a third piece. Krillin looked somewhat pained. After hesitating for a long time, Old Man slowly pulled out one more piece. Krillin judged that this was probably his limit, laughed heartily, flashed his white teeth, and agreed.
Krillin taught him for quite a while. Only after Old Aman learned how to use the capsule did he leave, overjoyed. Krillin then began tallying his gains.
The Immortal Stones contained 3000, 1500, 1000, and 4100 energy respectively.
"Haha, I won't be short on energy for the time being!"
After finishing his packing, Krillin discovered that Aman's entire tribe had come to see him off. What a simple, honest tribe.
"Aman, goodbye. I'll protect Earth well." Though they could not understand him, Krillin wanted to protect these simple people and let them continue living on Earth forever.
