The Chunin instructor's face turned livid from being choked up. He was about to rush out of the tower to argue with Katsuo when another Chunin beside him quickly grabbed him and said anxiously, "You can't go over there. You'd be the one interfering with the exam..."
"But..."
"He's right. He hasn't violated any exam rules. Though I don't know what he's trying to do either, I think we should report this to the Hokage immediately. We can't let him keep blocking the entrance like this!"
"How about this? I'll stay here and keep watch. You go notify the medical ninja to send someone, then make a trip to the Hokage's home!"
It was already late at night. If they wanted to find the Hokage, they could only go directly to his home. They might well get cursed out for it, but the situation was unusual, so this Chunin could only steel himself and make the suggestion.
The other Chunin across from him saw nothing wrong with it and nodded at once. Looking at his responsible colleague, he gratefully patted him on the shoulder...
Two hours later, the Chunin returned sheepishly. As expected, he had received a thorough scolding from the Hokage...
When the Hokage got up in the middle of the night and opened the door, his first reaction upon seeing the Chunin was to ask, "Did someone die?!"
After all, a death was perhaps the biggest trouble that could arise during the Chunin Exams. But even if someone had died, there was no need to come knocking in the middle of the night and disturb his family's sleep... Did the death of some mere Genin really require him, the Hokage, to rush over in the dead of night?
With that thought in mind, the Third Hokage's expression darkened.
