If one had to use a single word to describe the Kingdom's Royal Capital, then only one word could fully convey it.
Ancient.
Put nicely, the word meant it had a long history.
Put bluntly, it could also mean the Royal Capital was old and worn-down.
At least, that was how Noah felt.
Unlike the brand-new buildings throughout E-Rantel, most of the houses standing along both sides of the Royal Capital's streets were old and plain, without the slightest novelty or freshness.
Many of the roads had not even been paved.
The pedestrians coming and going through the streets did not give off the bustle one would expect from a nation's capital.
Here, it was as though everyone was wary of something—or afraid of something. Even when speaking to one another, they did not dare raise their voices too much, leaving the entire place steeped in a lifeless, heavy atmosphere that felt terribly oppressive.
If not for the patrolling guards occasionally passing by with spears in hand, and the castle deep within the city that could be seen even from distant streets, no one would have thought such a deathly silent city was the Kingdom's capital.
In fact, Noah had indeed begun to wonder about that.
